Default Golden tiger 5.45x39

I just picked up some GT 5.45x39 as part of a deal, is this good ammo? The bullet is magnetic and has some purple sealant. I couldn’t find any for sale online to gauge a price. Should I use it for plinking or save it and use something more available? Thanks for the input.

Save this. It's never going to be imported again according to recent posts on this topic. I'd stash it away. Might be very valuable some day. Back a few years ago this stuff was oos for a few years and cases went up in price considerably if it was even to be found. It's good stuff.

Golden Tiger Ammo is good ammo it gives good velocity and projectile weight. Its negative is not the best consistency. I would rather this ammo over many others and its cleaner burning then its competitors. There is only one main source for it and that seems to have dryed up for the time being. So shoot if you want or store it as it is sealed ideally for that as well.

Great ammo I have found and would pick up more if it came around.

I bought my 1st case @ SGA 07/20/2013 for $249 and would have loaded up more if it weren't for the lower 7N6 prices at the time. Then GT 545x39 disappeared.

2017 SGA had it again at the lower price of $229 and grabbed a couple more.

Looks like GT performed the best of commercial ammo, and 7n6 beats everything.

Sam is not selling any cheap 5.45 anymore as I could see. No Barnaul mil spec, regular poly is gone as well. I guess he wants to sell all expensive ammo while panic? I got 13k of it within one year and I am fine anyway.

I emailed Sam and he said the lacquered wolf 5.45x39 will be back in stock within 30 days.

I hope he plans on keeping it flowing. He's THE one guy with the right ammo. Lacquered & double sealed is the only way to go for AK ammo.

Agreed, I told him that everyone on the Files is begging to have more of that type of ammo in 5.45 we just have to make sure we buy it consistently so he keeps on bringing it in.

I emailed him around the beginning of February and he said he should have some Barnaul coming in as well

In a way, that may be the hard part of keeping a steady supply coming in. I can't be the only one who tends to react to long droughts in availability by stocking up for a while.

I had some older batches I bought ~5 years ago.
My favorite 5.45 other than 7N6, good ammo to have stashed away.

I remember people were begging Sam for GT 5.45 for years, and he finally got them to send it again. People bought it, but then it just sat. That was pre-7n6 ban, so people just kept buying the cheaper surplus. I think that is part of what killed GT 5.45. Now, post 7n6, it would probably sell well.

The ammo was fine, really. The problem was inconsistent loading, which all 5.45x39 had except for the hornady stuff. It was loaded within a couple % of the 7n6 tested based of ft/lb of energy to compare.
