Default History of VZ 58 - video review

Recently I made a video about a rifle that is near and dear to my heart - VZ 58.

Back in the day, it was the rifle that I used while I was in maritime security, and I just fell in love with it.

Later I found that the history of the rifle is also fascinating and actually resembles a history of AK in some way. Just like AK, VZ 58 was developed by the "underdog", young and unknown design engineer who had to compete with more experienced counterparts.

Hope you like it, we might make another video comparing VZ 58 with original Russian AKM - accuracy, groups, controllability on rapid fire.

Badass, I still need to get one. Who makes the best ones on the market? Czech Point or something right? Also is Kalashnikov Media still gonna cover the other AK variants? Really enjoyed the Hungarian video.

Thank you!

Yes, hopefully. Two more videos about Hungarian AKs are coming soon.

Romania, Yugoslavia - Iraq, Egypt, Germany (DDR), Finland are planned for the near future.

Excellent video. Would love to hear about your experiences on the high seas.

One question: You mentioned that the mag release was not ergonomic for a left-handed shooter as it's hard to access with the right hand. I think it's actually very good for a left-handed shooter as you can use your trigger finger to release the mag while using your right hand to load another. You used these in real life -- what do you think ?

Great video.
I actually think they're better than the AK in a lot of ways. I just wish it took AK mags.
Both the Kalashnikov and the VZ 58 are excellent rugged platforms though.

Actually, I recently did some research and realised that a lot of lefties use their trigger finger to release the mag on VZ 58. I think it is a pretty good solution.

My problem is that I don't understand why they did not put a little "bend" on the trigger guard on both sides. It would make things easier for everyone.

Good video, I carry a 58 compact pistol with me on extended trips. It’d be awesome if there was an easy way to get a red dot mounted to it without having to spend $120 on side mounts

Always wanted one. Those things are incredible. I like the folding stock or paratard stock on any rifle.

Is that original color? Interesting... I was sure that those rifles were refinished when they converted them to semi.

As far as I know, it's the original blue/grey color on military issued VZ 58's

Gotcha. When you said compact pistol, I was thinking the 12". So you have the baby one. Very compact indeed. Does it handle well?

Not bad, it needs a brace but the slovak brake does a good job of keeping it manageable. The compacts have a hell of a bark and flame. We did get the opportunity to chrono it once and it was putting up about 1900fps ave across all of our loads (monarch, red army, GT, wolf mil). Wanna try it again with Tula 8M3 since it’s supposed to have a little more heat

Yes we can, but we never thought about making a video about it.
It is the most common ans basic thing we have, really.

Guys, if you have suggestions on what you want to see in the next episodes, please let me know!

Correct

If you want a Vz-58 in the U.S. Czechpoint is the only one that imports them from the Czech Republic. CSA (Czech Small Arms) is the one who makes them now, not CZ since they have moved on to the Brens.

Be prepared to spend money since they go for easily over $1000.

I bought a fixed stock parts kit with bakelite furniture, a receiver and had it built. I think i got the kit for $199.00. Nice video.
