Default Glocktastrophe! USMC already getting rid of its new Glocks

In a recent publication, the Department of the Navy outlines plans for the liquidation of their recently acquired Glocks in favor of the Sig-Sauer MHS

Apparently the purposes for which the Glocks were purchased will be better served by the MHS.

The M9 and some other older handguns will also be retired.

// Begin nerd blather //

I saw the image was a PNG, so I downloaded it, converted it to a JPG ( which was of a much smaller file size ) and uploaded it to an image host.

ImgDump4 offers 640 pixel thumbnails, among other sizes

Linked smaller photo in the post to the huge-o-rama actual size.

\\ End nerd blather \\

Ah......well thanks for the explanation.

I thought you found a way to decrease the size with some coding, and didn't catch the rehost.

Meh. I'm wondering if this was done for compatibility, or because the Glock was actually unsuitable. Honestly, it's a handgun...at this point in firearms technology, if the gun works reliably, I don't see one as being superior to any other, except for specific needs (weight constraints, for instance).

I agree in a way. Glock isn't my first choice but I would have no problem carrying one if issued. Not all pistols are the same. I prefer shooting a full size, all steel sa pistol. However after considering what the pistol is intended for I am sure Glock or Sig is apples to oranges.

Navy seals went with the glock 19. They are shooters who have more control over equipment procurement

Yeah,

If we use the same philosophy for rifles, the M16 is CLEARLY a superior rifle to ALL others available.....?.... Yeah... Sure...

Nails, your research is commendable, but your premise is moot, or at least inductive. I'll even go ahead and say the sig is better, but then my premise would be moot too...

Of course I KNOW how much you love the M16/AR model of rifles... Hands down the best... Right?

Well, I have a GenII /G19 and a Sig Sauer SP2022, and I prefer the Sig.

Sig SP2022:
Better ergonomics
Drop-free mags
More Accurate

Glock:
Better sights

Also MARSOC went with the G19.

USMC Helicopter Squadron One also went with the G19.

USMC Criminal Investigation Division also went with the G19.

"M007 Concealed Carry Weapon"

Rangers also went with the G19.

SOCOM has also adopted the G19s for their various units.

Both guns are "quite" capable,

It does boil down to preference(ref Guzzi), really, or whichever possesses the qualities you seek most. There are entirely to many examples in the armed forces where the least of 2 is chosen over the better. Budget being the driving force behind most of these. Keep in mind, they are "jarheads"...

Got a Sig P320 and a G19 gen 4. I like the Glock better but they are both fine guns. The Sig feels a bit too bulky and top heavy IMHO

(Shaking his head) The Glock dates back to, what, 1985? Is it really all that surprising that someone might decide that a more recent polymer striker-fired design could be better over 30 years later?

Glock only set the standard for reliability and durability and the best pistol magazine extant . You know a bunch of generals and bureaucrats are getting kickbacks from cohen/sig . The whole thing stinks to high Heaven .

Hopefully Steyr will sue the pants off cohen/sig for patent infringement for stealing the concept of the removable chassis pistol system . And smith&wesson needs to be sued by Steyr for the same exact thing .

Why polymer firearms are NOT a good idea for battlefield conditions:

https://loadoutroom.com/3817/when-po...fail-hk-p2000/

I'd only want a full metal frame pistol, regardless of it weighing more. It'd suck to have a need for it only to have half a gun to fight with.

Oh... and I can't post without a Glawk me me.

???

Have you ever held an AR?

Sure, the handguard, buttstock and grip are "plastic"... but the critical parts are not. Take the stock off, the grip off and the handguards off and you can still fire the AR. Not so much with that busted up BPA's pistol!

The agent's poly firearm broke in half by his weight and momentum when he fell off his ATV. How the hell he gonna fight with half a pistol?

Again. I would never want a poly pistol in a battlefield scenario.
