Default Market for Waffen Werk Receiver AK74s?

Are people out there willing to buy these? I saw one on armslist for $1000 and wondered what the general consensus on these was since I feel like I wouldnt buy one without test firing it first. Would any of you buy one and if you did at what price?

I have one with WW receiver and it has been flawless in operation. Just under 1000 rounds now. I bought it during the Great Panic of 2013 for $850 from Atlantic. I think today its worth $550 to $600 shipped.

I have one on a NDS receiver. Like a $600 rifle.

I did my research and would rather have an AK74 with a chf chromelined barrel. I heard the chambers are tight on some US 74 barrels. If built well it's probably fine but the appeal for me is that the parts are former combloc.

Whatever a 74 parts kit is going for these days is what it’s worth. Demill it sell the barrel buy a Childers receiver and a barrel from Kvar if they still have them then build it.

Why in the hell Waffen Werks stopped making GOOD ak-74s on NoDak Spud receivers and started making them on out-of-spec receivers is a good question.

Didn't take long after that to destroy their reputation and go bankrupt.

I have heard that the turd bird who runs Classic Arms put intense pressure on Waffen Werks to ramp up production numbers and this fiasco resulted.

This may not be true or it may be true.

In either case a sad story with an ugly ending.

Id get one for around $450 for the matching parts kit. Remember Classic had DDI backing up the warranty work on these after WW went under. They were selling for $500 to clear them out three years ago. I see these all the time on GB and guys are trying to sell them for $800+.

Early ones were NoDak or TGI XX out receivers and were good with Green Mountain barrels. Even the early WW receivers were good, but after that it was a crap shoot.

You need to hand inspect them now and look primarily for ejector issues.

Does anyone have any experience with the milled receiver Waffen Werks? I have not fired mine, as I have been lazily waiting for a thread to pop up with some info on them. It is NIB.

I acquired this being a new to AK guy and after reading all of the negativity regarding these rifles in general , I may end up just trying to trade it for an autographed picture of Rutger Hauer and one pack of Big League Chew.

Anyone have any experience or knowledge of the milled WWs?

Thank you

These were a very limted run item by WW. Also, if I recall there was never a combloc original milled 74. So its a bit of a mismatch for those looking for authenticity. But, im sure its a good shooter. Only think I ever saw was a MAC review of them.

Gaddywack... just like you, the only time I have seen one of these milled WWs was from the review MAC did.

Maybe I'll hold out for two Rutger Hauer photos and some Big League Chew.

Thanks for you input.

The one I own (2013) still running like a champ, flawless in operation. it also has the original Bulgarian plum stock set.

Classic sold a ton of these, not all of them were bad.

If its like anything else, its probably around 10% or less and it got blown up to be 100%. But, it would really stink to be in that 10%

I wouldn't spend more than $450 - $500 on one. That's the cost of a barreled kit, which is all you'll have if that receiver is out of spec like a lot of them were.

I've got a milled receiver WW ak 74. Got almost 2000 rounds through it and it has been flawless. Probably my most accurate AK.

There are very few milled WW rifles.

I have one and it's flawless. Don't be quick to trade it off. It may not be "authentic", but it's a great rifle.

One sold on my local forum for $700. Functioned perfectly and he even offered to go to the range prior to purchase so you could confirm function. I was kinda tempted but have my eye on other guns ATM.
A milled 74 has been intriguing to me because I have several milled AK's in x39 and have a SAM5.

GOOD for you.

Met Harlan from NoDak Spud some years back briefly.

Those guys are excellent machinists and really know AKs.

Would NOT hesitate to buy a Waffen Werks AK-74 built on their receiver.

As anybody on this board knows, Waffen Werks went to hell when they started rolling their own receivers.

And IF you can find a Bulgarian kit with original barrel the NoDak Spud receiver would be a wonderful receiver to build on.

Classic was (is?) selling the WW 5.45 AK74 receivers for cheap...

I can say, from the few that I've bought and built on, they are great 7.62x39mm receivers.

They are the only 5.45 receiver I've ever had that a 7.62 bolt passes the ejector with no problems. No trimming, nothing needed. Open up the magazine well and its GTG for AKM.

It may be that some of the "junky" ones we hear about were built on these receivers. Or at least I would imagine so, from what I've seen in the one's I purchased.
