Default So I scratched the home defense shotgun itch. Mossberg 930

Been looking for a HD shotgun for a while and tho I wanted a pump I settled on a Mossberg 930 I got in a trade. Took it out the other day and ran nothing but cheap ammo thru it and had absolutely no issues what so ever. The stock is a Mesa Tactical and boy I have nothing but good things to say about it, the rubber buttpad is excellent to reducing the impact on your shoulder, and the pistol grip has a nice feel to it. I think I am going to add a red dot, light, and sling here soon but its off to a good start. Overall the shotgun has a pretty heavy duty feel to it, and a pretty smooth action. This is my first Mossberg shotgun, and I believe it's a keeper . Pretty happy with it, here are a few pics.

With these 930’s, if you run high brass they’ll run all day every day. When shooting cheap skeet loads expect it to run good for a couple boxes or so but expect it to be about 80% reliable after that. I like the 930’s, they are great for a first/low cost autoloader.

My model number is the 930 SPX Tactical. I still have the factory buttstock which is a non pistol grip, but again the Mesa tactical is a huge upgrade to your shoulder at the end of the day. After putting a bunch of cheapo winchester thru it there was not even a mark on my shoulder. Super cush, compared to my Tristar tec 12 or hatsan escourt that leave marks on my shoulder in no time. I am no sissy but is far more enjoyable to shoot when you thru alot of ammo.

What'd you trade for it?

I still want a 930 because I love the Mossberg tang safety as a lefty. I figure I'll pick one of them or a Beretta 1301 up in the future.

I'd probably put the standard stock back on because it puts the safety out of easy reach if it were mine though. And a Limbsaver Airtech pad on it...they're sooo damn soft.

I gave up a Shield in 40 with laser, and some small acessories via armslist. I am going to put some more rounds thru it tomorrow but at this point it's a keeper.

Nice! I have had an itch for a Benelli M4 for a long time but the fucking cost of those things.......

A 930 might be in my future.

M4 is awesome and so is the price tag. 930 is the best bang for the buck. Managed to paw a nice used one (conventional stock) for $400 OTD. It has run flawlessly. As previously posted, cycling is rougher with anemic #8 and #9 shot. Handles just about anything like a champ. But, unlike my beloved 500s, you have to keep the 930 clean. Back in the mid-80s I shot trap with my old 500A (1985) virtually every weekend for 7-8 years. Outside of running a patch of nitro solvent through the barrel every blue moon, I never detail cleaned the 500A until 2017. A clean 930 is a happy 930.

As long as you give it a proper cleaning and break-in per the manual, this thing will eat anything you toss at it even walmart low brass. Can't say that about other semi-autos.

I got my 930 SPX a while ago, love it. While having issues with my VEPR12 and trying different loads, I found this thing ate anything that I put in it and I *never* had a misload. Yes, I'm knocking on my wooden head, but I was thrilled that this thing rapid fired anything that I put into it. I'm still sweet talking my VEPR12 to do the same thing, with so-so results. Congrats, I love mine.

I thought about picking up one of these. Have an M4 but wanted another gas operated semi auto that doesn't cost me $2K.

I was prepared to spend more on a HD shotgun but after seeing all the good reviews I have to admit I feel really good about my purchase. I will say this for the money the 930 SPX is a bargain IMO.

That is the same thing that I have seen across the internet as well, have not seen too many negative reviews about the general function of this shotgun even with low power loads after it has been adequately broken in.
