Default Vepr 12 OEM mag prices

I know the ban is in place, so for the hell of it, I've checked out Vepr 12 pricing, and correct me if I'm wrong, the current pricing for the shotguns doesn't seem that bad/different from what I paid for mine before the ban.

In doing that I happened onto the pricing for the OEM mags and they've gone up at some dealers 2 to almost 3 times what I paid for mine.

$132.00 for a mag? Really? They're that scarce? Hard to get?

I went ahead and checked out some other dealers, some of whom are on this site, and their mags are up/way up.

The Russians never sold the magazines in volume.. They used to be that high before the ban back almost 10 years.. They only got cheap the past couple years.

Probably.. Anytime there is more demand than supply the price is going to trend upward.. Factory magazines are banned from import so any demand will increase their value.

The only thing that drove the price down originally was abundant supply and aftermarket competition.. Since supply is gone and now the OEM have achieved forbidden fruit status it is unlikely prices will decrease.

You Sir need to hook me up with a Saiga 12 030 magwell mag. I know we talked about this a year or so ago but this way I can put my "forbidden fruit" S12 mags back in zip lock baggies for a the inevitable future.

I have a CSS spec 8rd for my vepr 12. A little bit of fitting and it runs wonderfully. Though I would love factory stuff, can't justify the price. Just wish the CSS didn't have the large ridge down the back.... Wink wink

Which is why i got rid of the ones i had and stocked up on OEM mags. The spine is huge. I would like to see them eliminate the spine. Butt the two edges up to each other and spot weld a strap over them to cover and close the gap.

LegionUSA use to run 5 packs of OEM V12 mags in 8 and 10rd for a substantially reduced amount vs. individual prices. That was the time to stock up on them.

Agreed. I might try to weld and grind the spine and rid of it myself. I'd love to get a 10rd CSS, but not the way they are currently being produced.

Yes.............I ended up getting 4 OEM 8 rounders from Arms of America (since I got my 2 Veprs from them), at about $70.00 a piece.

When Legion had that sale, I got the 5 pack, which was $255.00 giving me a total of nine 8 rounders.

I feel extremely lucky.

I've had good dealings w/Legion, and Maxim from 4 Range who held two EFA hand guards from Alfa which ended up on my 2 Veprs.

OEM mags are great, but at least with Cspecs mags, you have a combat ready mag.

Kvar had the saiga 12 8rd mags on sale for $59.99 delivered a few months back. I should have bought their entire inventory.

Due to the current mag/drum existing saiga 12 market, any new mag fed shotgun would most likely use the same mags

I have OEM 5,8 and 10 rounders but I bought an SGM 10 and 12 rounder. The SGM 10 rounder worked fine but the 12 rounder had a fucked follower. Stick with OEM mags.

Factory 5 rounders are $37. https://www.1800gunsandammo.com/prod...nt=51693551630 I can handle that price. The OEM 8/10 rounders aren't worth what guys want for them, IMO. Especially not when csspecs has a better version out and had them shipped to me for $47.50 on black friday. Csspecs for the range, OEM 5 rounders for the woods, SGM for the trashcan.

Market dictates price. 'Better' is subjective. I can not stand the spine on CSSpecs mags, it is HUGE. For that reason alone, the factory mags are better, to me, and in my opinion.

I agree, SGM belongs in the trash, pretty much at any price. Although they do better in V12's because of the magwell than they do in S12's without the magwell.

Yeah the spines are not ideal.. They add a lot of strength but they also can be annoying.. If you put your thumb alongside the spine instead of over it then it is less bad.. Car door trim can also work.

Eventually we will have an update..

I felt ripped off back when it first came out, I bought a five pack of the 8rd oem mags for $300 from legion when the 10rd mags were 110-120$. Glad I got a bunch of mags before they went bye bye but man 100$ for a mag is insane.

They WILL be back, its only a matter of creating a new corporation to bypass the trade determinations that the US put in place.

They IE, the people who owned the corporation also were selling or funding arms that were used by Russia in the Ukraine.

IF you understand how the Russian factories were taken over by the former military leaders, and basically, ex generals are also the board members and staff of the corporations that sell and make ALL the arms in Russia, you would understand how the relationship is incestuous with the leaders of Russia, hence, the ban.

Only a matter of time, as the Ukraine war has slowed, arms and ammo demand is down, and eventually, they will want more US dollars again.

Further, you can find them on the grey market, shipped directly from Europe if you do your homework.

Value, is ultimately determined by the free market, what goes up, will come down, or not, if the market is willing to pay for it.

I think I have nearly 10 8 rounders, and a pile of 5's, I for one, have no need to purchase an aftermarket magazine, and I'll wait for the next batch to return eventually.

My advice, is, don't buy into a system, unless you can get a lifetime supply of the needed items to support it at the same time.

AK mags sold for 1 dollar per round in the early 80's, and that was it, no cheaper, 30 bucks for a 30 round AK mag, probably isn't far off the 80 plus these mags are going for in todays dollars. In relative terms, they aren't that expensive.

Edit to ad, its works out to 68.74 in 1985 dollars adjusted for inflation, so, those just like those 223 Norinco AK mags, the mag costs remain fairly valued over time.
