But I'll get the Steyr first

Not really sure why you want to replace a block 19 with a gun thats just like it. Might as well save the paper and keep it. Anything polymer equal in size is going to be comparable or inferior. Why fix what aint broke?

I've tried finding something to replace my 19 and have yet to find it. If I can quit buying AK's, I'll be picking up a CZ P-01 Omega to try out. Have an SP-01 and love that gun! I might get a P10c at some point. Heard some good things about it and some not so good.
I've owned 4 different 19's and my last one is a keeper: Gen4 with the forward serrations on the slide, metal sights and extended controls. Only thing I changed were the sights to Trijicon HD's. Planning to add a Keltec Sub 2k that takes G19 mags as my truck gun. Good luck in your search. I own/have tried some of the guns previously listed and have stayed Glock. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I refuse to run extended controls on a carry gun, but I also have long fingers so I don't really have a need for them anyways. And Glock advises a sling shot technique over a slide stop release anyways.

They aren't overly extended like say for instance what you can get for the Gen3 models' mag release. It's very slight and curved in the front to make it comfortable. Too each their own though. I get what you're saying.

Consider an HK vp9. Fast, ergonomic, stupid accurate and with a sexyness that Glocks can never hope to match.

I do like those but above my $500 ceiling by a good bit. I'm a little put off by the open firing pin channel in the back too. I'd be the 1 in 10 million guy who gummed it up with belly button lint or something

My G19gen4 has been working great for a while now. I love out-shooting guys at the range that have expensive custom race looking pistols/gear with it and my mil-issued molly gear. Makes them realize it's more about the training than the gear.

That being said, there are a lot of nice pistols being mentioned in this thread.

Have you checked out the new IWI Masada pistol yet?

VP9 is within your budget. Here is one under $500.

Guys the HK VP9 would be an answer if OP was looking for a G17 that wasn't a G17. The VP9SK would at least get OP in something similar size wise to the G19, but doesn't have the capacity.

My G19 Gen3 is the one that rides with me in the truck. When the zombie invasion starts, my G19 will be my carry pistol, it always goes bang when trigger pulled, and is light and holds a lot of bullets and is very accurate . Theirs a reason all of the top SF units use these,,,,

HK VP9 capacity = 15
Glock 19 G4 capacity = 15

Google even does the comparison for you when typing in just VP9 Capacity
They are compared because they are nearly the same size , length, capacity, etc.

This is what the OP is asking about.

I have 8 Glock pistols gen 2 thru gen 4, all the major players and really like them and tho they are bulletproof reliable my P226 and P229 get all the love. Saying that I would never say anything bad against owning a Glock. Then again my motto is buy them all..

Just what I did some years ago, another choice is a Walther P99

Google shows you this if you search for comparison between the Clock and VP9.

G17 vs. VP9:

The G19/G23 is smaller than the VP9. I know, because I own both.

I see what you are saying grasshopper.....

VP9 is more an an in between G17 and G19 size.
I went off this comparison also of the 2, and the G17 looks bigger, your pic looks alot different

Guessing the low bore axis of the Glock makes it look the same standing upside down.
Doesnt make sense to me honestly as the G17 is 5.43" height, and VP9 is 4.99" height.
The HK VP9 SK is smaller then the G19 so they are not exact comparisons

VP9 SK vs G19.
HK is visibly smaller, and the VP9 is bigger so the G19 is a go between and no exact match up

Whatever Glock you buy PLEASE leave it stock. I mean you can change the sights if you want to, but other than that just leave it alone. My Glock 19 is bone stock except for a front trijicon night sight.
