Default Review: Tibetarn Gorka by Splav

Pros:
Seller is Kosea1984 A+++ in my book
(Ebay)
Effective and Rugged design, well worth the cost
Cons:
I'll let you know if I find any.

Been wanting this set for a year, happy to finally pull the trigger. It has exceeded my expectations.

Seller messed me until we had my right size zeroed in, for me my old issued usaf sizes were my reference and he converted then to the alien chart. Fits great, i ordered on the higher end to accommodate winter garments underneath.

Purchase to arrival time was 3 weeks (shipped from Moscow to Utah). It shows up just when you forget about it and is a nice
I would recommend to my friends this suit snd seller.

About this pattern: The Gorka is a generic term for a series of Russian pants and jacket designed for rugged use. The suit pattern/age, and camo pattern will determine the price by as much as 50% and it comes in many styles.

This is the description of mine, from the seller:
"nwt GORKA 3 suit russian TIBET water resistant camo army special forсes uniform

Gorka-3 by SPLAV. Perfect suit for outdoor activity and airsoft. Made of cotton. "Brezent" water resistant fabric."

My camo pattern is Tibetarn, Tibet, plateau or type 03 pla chinese mil.
The camo design/color is a rendition of chinese pla type 3. It is borrowed from the german flectarn camo pattern with a desert-woodland color scheme. Its a refered to as winter-desert. The Russans borrowed this camo from them and it is sold commercially now.

You can find this pattern in use in pics from the conflict in Ukraine on the internet.

Ive tested this gear in the mountains and desert. Light rain and snow, I stayed completely dry. After a couple hours. I spoke with a hunter from russia who uses this stuff. He recommended that i water proof it more and that this rain protection works until its completly soaked like a sponge then its very wet. So not a poncho replacement.

The built in but removable elbow and knee pads are great. The suspenders help. The canvas material protects from the wind. It is a heavy material.

Im still finding more pockets haha. The hood is pretty big I recommend a baseball cap to keep it out of your eyes.

Im very happy. All I have to compare it to is the military issue BDU/DCU gortex suits and the ABU Airforce gortex suit. Its sort of comparing apples to oranges but I am way less worried anout the gorka ripping in harsh woodland environments.

The camo color is versitile i think it covers most of what the dcu and bdu were designed for not unlike the new multicam army pattern.

Big thimbs up! If i missed something let me know

Posting pics now

Gorka is Russiam for Mountain. Gorka 1 used in the Societ-Afghan war. It has seen continuous updates since.

Chinese Troops wearing type 03, Tibet color/patten on my gorka 3 is patterned after.
1st is from a tv show, second is military

Fighter in Ukraine with Tibet Gorka with slung RPK

My gorka 3 in Tibetarn, splav, from kosea1984 on ebay
You can see the splav is much more green, than the Chinese. I dint know if its variation or the splav is like that. My type 3 boonie hat is chicom comercial and more brown overall. Its pretty lol and getting it dirty slmost seemed wrong. Haha but i was in the mud right off the bat.

Some testing pics in the field (NE Utah)

The environment im in the internoubtsin west is associated with the rockies. The high desert/mountain terrain isnt that different from mountainous and mountain valley terrain in Afghanistan other than smaller scale. A 20 min drive takes you from barren desert with antelope ,rattlesnakes and sagebrush into mountain canyons and peaks with moose and pines. This camo is a nice trade off between the two landscapes.
The high desert starting at approx 5000 feet elevation can see temps 100+F in the summer and as low as -20 to -30 in winter. It is in the center of a 70 mile crater of an ancient great lake, rimmed rimmed by rugged mountains some exceeding 14k feet.
Spring in the mountains, rain and snow can hit suddebly and vanish to sunshine just as fast.

Here is the tibet gorka in tests in my ao

What was the price?

I have a jacket and pants of usmc issued goretex and first outing with it to hunt turkeys I put about 4 huge holes in the pants from thorn bushes. I would never recommend that combo especially when they run about $100 for the set.

Only $160 and $25 shipping. Thats higher price end, certain camo patterns mass produced will be way less

No prob! Love it and the suit goes along with AK's like peas m carrots just rugged.

It would be great to see more products in this pattern.

Because I posted a review on Instagram I got in contact with a that's a tactical tailor who does cool work with real operators and companies and because he got ahold of some pattern to work with someone told him about mine and he reached out to me turns out he's in Utah too.

Damn, That is a great pattern for the area! I need to get a couple sets. What month do you think you'd have to take off? Early June?

What was your old AF size? I'm 6'1" and I think I was Medium Reg or medium long but can't remember.

I think you bought from Kosea, who is a member here, great guy.

Im not sure, the temp patterns here are nuts. I work outside or in unheated shop at the moment so Im used to cold more and the heat really gets to me now. Its going to be 70 f today, the hottest yet by far, could be as low as 25 tonight though. Its way cooler higher in the mountains still. When its warmer just having a base layer might work for most of the day, and just change as needed in lower elevations switch to a bdu type when its hotter. Thats the thing here is the temp swings and the mountains are like islands or mini climates above the desert.

Im a medium reg bdu size, 5'8"...in boots lol. i wore large chinese underwear (flightsuit liner) and a large, short abu gortex jacket. Which covers 41-45 in chest. I usethe same liner with the gorka and it is a nice fit, though too hot for the 40's together. Kosea will work with you.

Yeah, its based on flecktarn, the chicoms stole the design and changed color then the russians stole the chinese version. Thats where the nickname tibetarn comes from. On the southern border of china in the mountains/desert they were issued this. I think it is being replaced by type 07 digitized version

I own the Gorka-5 by SPLAV, as well as some SPOSN gorkas.

What's the difference between the Gorka-3 and the Gorka-5 by SPOSN? The outfitters show that the 5 is slightly more expensive, but I'm not clear as to why.

Hard to say what exactly because my go-to distributor uses different names, but there is a model similar to the 3 that uses a fleece lining for winter.

i absolutely dont. Thats the beauty of Gorka's nano-blend material. Gortex is loud and does not breathe like Gorka.

Sure you will get wet faster in Gorka when standing in a pouring rain, but it does do a fine job repelling water for a while. When hunting, i spent 6 or 7 hours in the rain- light rain and under a tree. Water did eventually "get" through, but it was just damp on the inside.

i own 2 gortex parkas and prefer Gorkas hands down

Interesting!
I been on the fence on which style I was going to buy but was detoured towards a UR purchase.
My mcps trousers are my go to but they don’t breathe so well and are stiffer than toast but waterproof wind proof hell even has a resistance to flame. I got them a tad oversized to act as an outer layer. But are not an option during the warm months.
The gorka certainly has advantages no doubt.
Now which ones do I crave

My go-to for a brick and mortar store is grey-shop.com

But I have a friend who used to manage there who can get better prices than his now-competitors on most things.
