What will the stages consist of and will a pistol be necessary to complete any of the stages?

Right now the Stages are still in planning, but for sure this will be rifle only. Stages will have short and semi-long distance variables along with some steel targets. Here is a link to the Practiscore signup if you want to read up a little more, however please keep in mind that you will not need to sign up here until your ticket is purchased.

I will be there, going to bring some of my buds too.
Running my AKS74U, but I need to figure out what gear I want to use.

Going AKS74U with irons, if I have to make a shot past 20m, I might have to take my AKM-74/2 as secondary LoL.

I have 3 shooters so far, trying to call upon my TwittSphere and YT-Army to see who else wants to join up with FREEDOM.

Century is the Title Sponsor of our Event. They will also be giving away a whole pile of Romanian Import rifles. They stepped up huge for us.

For our inaugural event, we are expecting to be able to put on a pretty insane show. The Vendor/Sponsor participation has far exceeded our expectations.
If you are in Texas or within a few hours drive, you would be crazy not to come out. The prize/raffle table alone is somewhere in the $30k range, all of the top AK vendors will be there. There will be Vendors out with Full Autos, Karnival Stages setup for non-competing tickets to get their feet wet, camping, social time with all of the vendors and the Texas Kalash community... It's gonna be a great time.

WASR seems like a great choice. Get a decent chest rig with AK pouches to start off. I think 4 mags on a chest rig is a great start. A good sling is needed, the basic 2 point sling is what I use. Eye and Ear pro is required too. Dump pouch highly recommended. Dont forget the water and power bars too.

I run Blue force gear pouches, they are the M4 ones and are really really tight with AK74 mags. I have them on a US FLC molle chest platform.
I also run a battle belt with pistol, pistol mags, and dump pouch.

Probably 70-80% of the shooters are in Open Division, which means they are running an optic and (optional) high cap mags (40+rnd). Chest rig is cool looking, but for speed I really like a good belt/mag holster setup (G-Code Soft Shell Scorpions are what I run). Rifle, Mag, and 2 Spares. Don't run a sling, they will get in the way. Most of the seasoned shooters will have a stroller (battle wagon) or wagon to lug around their rifle, mags, ammo, etc. Electronic Ear and Eye Pro is recommended. Don't worry about a dump pouch, you'll just pick up your mags after the time is done.

We will have water bottles all over the joint, snacks are good to have. We should have at least 2 food trucks Sat and Sun for lunch.

Yeah I like my chest rig, rifle mags on my belt have been snagged in doorways before.
I guess use whatever you are comfy with. I'm used to slinging my rifle and transitioning to pistol in between some past carbine match stages, so yeah I run a sling. I like powerbars cause I'm husky, and need to constantly eat.

Having water readily available is really a nice touch, not used to that accommodation at other carbine matches.

Absolutely, build your rig around your needs.

Regarding the slings, you will likely not find a USPSA or IPSC match where you are slinging a rifle and transitioning between rifle and pistol. Defensive Carbine Classes, yes all the time. The issue with slings in a competitive match is that a hanging rifle will most likely break the 180 rule and disqualify you from the match. In fact, most competitive shooting matches will prohibit the use of a sling during the timed shooting portion of the stages. This includes Kalash Bash. If at any point during a competitive stage you are required to release your firearm, you will simply be instructed to lay the rifle down muzzle pointed downrange. In 2-Gun or 3-Gun for example, shooters simply dump their firearm into a bucket or table and pick up the next. That said... slings are totally allowed when it comes to transporting your rifle from stage to stage, however when you consider the mags and ammo you may want to consider something like a small wagon or stroller.

Appreciate the feedback and look forward to seeing you all there!

Tony,

What is being done/what was done to ensure the range is safe at all times? There are going to be lots of shooters, and i know in your instagram video you mentioned there will be a LEO on site. Thanks!

LEO on site, RSOs at the Shooting Bays. We will also be enforcing a Magazine Out/Chamber Flag requirement for rifles that are not active in Vendor Bays or Comp Stages. Safety Rules and Guidelines will be posted up at the Event for attendees to read.
