Default Happy Day - I got to bring her home.

Surprising day today. It was our wedding anniversary today so I had made plans to ride down with her family. I had spoke to her early this morning before we left and they were going to allow her solid food.

We got down there and one of her Doctors came in and said that they had here last imaging results. They found gall stones present. So the Doctor said they believe the gall stones had caused her pancreatitis and along with our one meal a day practices had led to the stress of her going into ketoacidosis and it just spiraled into her whole body shutting down. He said that he has never seen someone in her condition pull through and that it's a miracle that she's here today. He said that he was just going to treat the patient instead of the disease. He wanted her to eat lunch and he was willing to release her if the other Doctor and the head Cardiologist agreed.

We had a long presentation with the Nutritionist and the Doctor popped in again and said Cardiology released her and they were all in agreement. She's got 2 appointments with a surgeon and another specialist this week. I don't know if they are going to remove her gall bladder or what is next. They stressed the important need to use her long acting Lantus insulin at the same time every evening and the ranges of her short acting Humalog insulin depending on how large her meals throughout the day are. But she has to eat 3 meals a day.

I'm glad I got to be there to hear the Nutritionist today. It had been so many years since she was diagnosed in our early 20s. It really opened my eyes to hoe just testing her sugar levels aren't enough. Besides just the diet she eats being important, her schedule is just as important. They've actually lowered the amount of insulin in units that she uses. Of course we have to keep track of meals and sugar levels for the Physician going forward. She also has an appt with her GP a week from today.

This has been an eye opening experience. I'm on heightened alert watching her, especially until these gall stones are resolved and we learn more. Like the comment below, we have no dreams or fantasies about the future. But, we need to discuss a long term plan for this whole mess going forward. I'm going to make sure she is stressed as little as I can. I've mentioned over the years that she didn't take her diabetes serious enough. In that same respect, I share some responsibility too. I really see how important her being on a schedule and will do my best to make sure there are things she can easily eat when I have no appetite. We have plenty of things to think through and take a different approach.

Thanks to all of you. You helped me get through the scariest thing I ever been through. I appreciate all the positive thoughts, but please keep Praying. You're all in my Prayers.

I'd say before she gets back home, you two need a PLAN in place to follow. Not an idea or hopes and dreams, but an actual, educated, realistic plan. Mapped out, step-by-step, followed daily.
+1 We're working on it.

Sorry I haven't read through the entire thread. When you say ketoacidosis - that's key player in every other problem - acidosis. Burning cells and tissue from the inside out. Yanking body parts out only eliminates the symptoms for a while, never a cure. So I see you are in a non-tropical climate, but nevertheless, if you are searching for answers and are open minded, I would put my life on it that this man speaks the truth. He is a Trump supporter and conservative. He has healed thousands literally, from severe degenerative stages of cancer and dis-ease. The main focus is the lymphatic system and kidney filtration. It may change the way you think about modern medicine and health.

This likely isn't a popular approach with the good ol boys around here, but being in fear of losing the life of yourself or loved one I would be searching for answers and truth. Just throwing that out there for you to consider. Will be praying for you both.

I hope you can do something kinda special for your anniversary, even if a little belated. Ya' never know how many you get.

Well... if a certain bunch of AHOLES would hit up PayPal at

boutcha1@comcast.net

with TRUE IN THIS CASE Friends and Family - these folks can have a good time and maybe even get some handyman work done in their home. Health issues and bills also create needs. A damned LOT of folks are NOT lazy and never ask for a cent. Boutcha will be mad at me I am sure - but this is why they deserve the help - the haven't asked for a thing other than prayer.

Sometimes the most basic and often troublesome thing in our world - MONEY - really is an answer to prayers. And let's not get all political about PayPal on this. One, it really is Friends and Family - no one is in a gray area. Two, yeah, PayPal sees "G U N" as a four-letter word - fine - but let them be useful idiots this time. This is a way to quickly and easily help someone out.

It's personal and private if you do or don't. Don't crow about it or it loses something. Don't shame others - that's just being a dick.

God Bless 'Boutcha - you and the missus.

Check out the post I just placed in the Members with Diabetes sticky - Blood Sugar 101 is a gold mine of helpful information. My wife has greatly improved her own Type 2 situation.

boutcha: It's very encouraging to read your update.

Has your wife considered using an insulin pump?
My wife has had good results, and (you might be familiar) it is programmed to meter insulin based on a given person's unique needs and schedule.

There is no discomfort wearing it, and the pumps use numerous daily doses ('basal rate'?) of what I call 'short-term' insulin, while extra doses can be added when blood sugar gets higher than wanted. No more wondering how long-term insulin--no longer used-- affects the body many hours from now.

People need to eat. Diabetics need to even more so.
It is a very delicate balance, as you no doubt have been enlightened to.

Sounds like some of the best news possible. Take care of her as best you can and help with the routine. Hopefully the gall bladder problem can be resolved without much fan fare. It will probably take surgery, and may take special precautions because of the diabetes.
Either way, hopefully she is around the corner and heading the right direction.
Best wishes.

Great news, fantastic she was able to recover and make it home.

Now, listen to the doctors who helped make it happen, and do what they say.

Best wishes going forward.

Thanks Sig.
I was glad I got to be present during the Nutritionist was there. It had been a long time since I had heard that info.

Don't worry, I'm being very cautious, we're not spring chickens any longer.
