Default More false advertising

Picked up a NOS Legion Saiga conversion yesterday. Took it home and test fired. Keyholing at all distances. Suspect incorrect barrel rifling. Crown is good and bore is clean and shiny.

Looked up Legion's warranty policy on their site and it states:

Warranty

You must provide a copy of your original sales receipt to demonstrate the purchase date when submitting a repair claim.

Limited Warranty Policy

The buyer is entitled to a LIMITED WARRANTY for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase, provided by the manufacturer of the firearm. This warranty covers faults in material or workmanship...

Called Legion this morning. Was told, nope, not going to honor the warranty. Take it to a gunsmith and pay to have it fixed.

Granted, the rifle sat on the dealers shelf since 2012, but I was the original buyer. Seems like the warranty period started yesterday to me.

I've bought several things directly from them in the past. That won't happen again.

Devils advocate; the original sales receipt would be to their customer, the person who sold you the rifle. Any warranty extended to a customer of their customer after the period of Limited Warranty would be at their discretion...which they state on their website.

Limited Warranty Policy

The buyer is entitled to a LIMITED WARRANTY for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase, provided by the manufacturer of the firearm. This warranty covers faults in material or workmanship. The manufacturer reserves the right to decide as to whether the firearm will be repaired or replaced. The importer/manufacturer reserves the right to study, inspect, and test the firearm to evaluate any claim made under the warranty.

If it is an actual Saiga, it would be the first one ever known for "keyholing".

If an actual Saiga, you are either unfamiliar with Saigas, or accusing Legion USA of screwing up the barrel threads purposefully.

Nope. Link The findings begin with post 190 on page 7. Looks like that barrel ended up with something like a 1-in-14 or 1-in-16 twist.

Not accusing them. But if it's the same barrel problem, someone made a mistake somewhere. I'm going to try and determine twist this evening.

Don't know about my qualifications for being familiar with Saigas, but my SGL21, SGL31 and a SGL21 wanna-be conversion shoot just fine.

The C.U.R that I brought home with the Saiga last night shot the same ammo just fine so it's not ammunition related either.

Seems really odd to me that after 40+ years of making AK74s, the Russians would change up their barrel making equipment just to screw a few folks.

The only one with that policy that I know of is Century. I'd hate to be lumped in with them as a company.

Don't get me wrong, I understand NOS is problematic for instances like this. But if they have an issue with it, reword their policy.

Also there was this little paragraph at the end of their FAQs:

We at Legion USA Inc pride ourselves on quality and customer satisfaction; we will take every step necessary to ensure that you have a working product, we can perform work to any part of the gun, and we will guide you to any resources needed to finish your customization.

There was no "every step necessary". I was summarily dismissed when I stated my issue.

No one is perfect. Like a few folks mentioned on the thread I referenced, this was probably just a "vodka special". Someone probably just used a wrong barrel blank to make this one.

Yep, wrong barrel. My cleaning rod test averaged out to around 1-10.5" twist. My SGL31 clocked in right around 1-7.75". Guess I'll be eating a barrel.

Take it back to the place you bought it from. Case closed.
If the shop doesn't play ball, file civil suite (maybe you get some money back in few years)

They don't have anything else I want. I traded a C39V2 for it and I don't need it back. Barrels are looking around the $120 mark so I'll probably just go that route.

Is this Legion rifle a 7.62x39 or 5.45x39 rifle?

I've never heard of 1:10 in 5.45.

Exactly. I suspect a 22lr blank got mixed in with the 5.45s.

I just ordered one of the "mystery crate" barrels from K-Var along with the correct gas block (the one on the Saiga was neutered). This may end well after all.
