We can't hunt with rifles here in Ohio, only straight walled cartriges, which almost sucks as bad as no Sunday hunting.

I hunt with black powder flintlock rifles and they kill just as good as any other rifle. We don't have the open space for any other type rifles. If you think you need more than what is available to us you should give up hunting. I kill most of my deer with a wood bow and wood arrows.

Went out Saturday evening instead of morning seen a few but no shot.

Freakin pack of big coyotes and 1 wolf looking husky mix (easily wolf as first thought). Couldn't get'em to stop, chased off my entertainment. They were circling for a few laps. Been a long time I came off a stand at full draw feeling so under-gunned and outnumbered.. no kid. If I fell out of stand and was unconscious bleeding, guarantee I would've been a statistic.

Baby ak (m92) or 6.5g will be accompanying me in the future. Been slacking in varmint control apparently. Damn them yotes!

I just crawled out of the woods. Went in this morning while it was still dark. Set up on a trail leading into a field of Blue corn I left standing. It was a warm night and warm this morning when I sat down on the ground against a big white oak.

I saw 4 does walk past me about 15 yards at legal hunting time but it's early in the season and I can be picky since I'm not starving. It's 80 degrees F now so I probably won't go back out. I have to go check on some boys in a bean field.

Went out this morning and just got back this evening about an hour ago. Seen a yearling and one small doe, nothing worth sticking a bolt in this early in the season! Haven't seen a buck yet, plenty of scrapes so their out there.

Our bow opener was a couple of weeks ago but the weather has been abysmal and the full moon has, in my opinion, pushed most of them nocturnal. I have seen not a deer the two times I sat on stand. I made the best of it though and spent some time on the tractor. I was able to cut a trail to a tree line that will give me quick access to an ungodly set of pinch points deep in a 150 acre stand of old growth timber on my farm. I walked it in the winter but I'm getting too old to hike in there, kill a deer and drag it out.

The best buck I have on camera is pushing 145". A nice, symmetrical 12 point. He is using that creek bed to go between my neighbors food plots and my bedding areas.

I saw those same does this morning leaving the corn right before legal huntin' time. They walked right by me on the same trail about 15 yards away. I was hoping big daddy buck would be following them but nothing. Wasted a couple of arrows on squirrels because I was hankerin' for some.

There's several reasons why not much is happening, a Full Moon the other night, warm weather and it's still early in the season. I need to see what I can salvage from the two arrows I used to get the squirrels and build a couple more later.

We were invited to dinner by a long time friend of my wife. Her husband makes his own long bows. I've never met him but his first run of jerky this year was almost as good as mine. I have a 100 acre farm that we don't hunt on. I have tried to lease it to several friends but they aren't interested. I may just give him permission to go there. I gave up compound bows in favor of cross bows following a shoulder injury.

Well I'm going out tomorrow in northern MI, either deer with a compound or grouse with a shotgun.. Have not picked yet, I only get about 8 days to hunt so I need to make it count.

Guy at my work hunted all last week and didn't see one deer. He thinks the weather has been too warm, but I went out hunting squirrels the past 2 Sundays and have seen deer both times. Maybe the deer don't like him hahaha.

Seen the deer when I'm going to/from the stands. Seen a bear on Saturday around 300 lbs.

It's way too warm here I think.

I've seen quite a few deer this year. I'm on a few hundred acres of managed private land (i help ) with a mixture of pines and hardwoods with food plots throughout. This year happens to be the first cut and its changing a few patterns up... everything adjusts . Seen what we call a swamp donkey the other afternoon, couldn't count the points but he was wide and well above the ears. Those make my heart race i havta admit. Seen a bobcat yesterday eve on same stand, sucker heard me gettin to stand and jumped outta a tree to check me out. Did the usual predator thing.. (circle downwind), i was halfway up a ladder stand still.. hurried to the top, wasn't seated but proceeded to nock 1 up. Lost him and waited a while, nothing. Appears they're starting to move later and later, can't wait for the rut to begin .

Tips: stay clear of deep woods off, I've hacked thermacell with neon butane cans and coleman refill bottles.. cuts cost exponentially. Shoot straight!
