Default The RC K98K Mauser

Thanks Michaco, I purchased 25 RC's starting in 2000 through 2008. Back then
Most Mauser enthusiast's were stating the RC was a Parts mixed junk rifle that would never go up in Value.
It was then that I said to myself now is the time to invest. Over the last 5 or 6 years I sold off 17 of them keeping the best of the rest for myself.

Some of the RC's I sold off^^^.

The 12 K98k Mausers that I currently own today, 8 of them are RC's.

Wow, nice collection of Mausers! I wish I had been smart enough to buy a lot of them back then like you did. At one time I had five, now only have one.

Good stuff! Reminds me to get back to fixing up my K98k. Picked up a Russian Captured stock set to bring it back to it's former glory. Just got hung up on the base plate button being stuck, will give it a shot later.

Very nice HDH! I wish that I had bought a few when they first came in. I had several very good K98’s then, down to just one now. My LGS back then was a good friend of mine and he would travel a lot, he would go up to Century and pick up a bunch of stuff and bring it back to his shop. For store credit I would clean up surplus guns for him, this was right after I bought my first house and really didn’t have two nickels to rub together to go into the gun fund so I was really kind of enthusiastic about it. I would also note what the guns really were, there were some very good guns that I saw. The RC capture K98’s were a really good deal. There are most likely many thousands of them still sitting in storage in Russia.

I don't believe any of the RC's that came in were from Russia. From what I understand all of them came out of the Ukraine. However some Russian RC's
may have come in as captures from the Vietnam war.

Thanks GH, It was the right time and I had the cash to spend (invest) so every Gun show I was looking and picking up the best examples I could find. Most of the ones I eventually sold came from Classic, SOG and IO. Condition wise IO had the best.

There is/was no reason 98k's couldn't be imported from russia, they are one of the models specifically allowed to be imported VIA the voluntary restraint agreement, the same agreement that made SKS's and SVT's prohibited from importation, which is funny because G41/G43 rifles are good to go.

Almost all of the mosins were coming from ukraine, we started seeing direct from russia imported mosins briefly with the Molot/Tula exports but then they abruptly stopped, Russia started asking top dollar and the importers just didn't import them, I bet they would now that classic can sell a 91/30 for $350, but everyones sanctioned now so they may as well not exist.

Probably the same deal with the mausers, they probably wanted premium prices, I would bet they still have vast quantities in storage, A few months ago there were some articles on the russian .mil destroying some obsolete and inoperable german surplus and there was footage of crates stacked to the sealing in a warehouse full of K98's,Lugers,MG42's,ect.

Should of saved the damn vids but I didn't

A damn good investment, and you can hold it in your hands and shoot it to boot.

When something is cheap/available and the collector community says it's junk then you know ist time to buy. The key thing is to know is the underlying desire for a product that will not always be available.

Ukraine is where the largest Soviet Russia era storage facilities for surplus/captured weapons were.

Very true.

I present the TAC:

https://tcc.export.gov/Trade_Agreeme...exp_005371.asp

Very detailed as to what is and what isn't allowed under the bilateral agreement with Russia.

The tcc.export site is, in general, a great resource for info on all things import and export related.

If you can get beyond the narration this is a good view of a RC in original configuration.
I like to clean them up myself.

Very nice pix HDH.

Makes me think back to my 7 RC K98ís I got from IO.

Traded or sold them off, wished I kept at least one RC.

I have a nice vet bring back s42: that is my keeper K98.

Your pic of the K98 keepers had some K43ís below, nice display!

Now I have to decide the fate of a few remaining GEW98ís.

Thanks, there was a time (1990's) when all I wanted to do was collect G/K43 rifles. There is a Guy over on Gun-Boards forum who owns 50 of them, I imagine if I stayed with it I would also be at that level. In the end I decided to move on and enjoy different Military Guns from around the world.

BTW one of the 1st rifles I owned was a Turk refurbed Gew98, I gave that rifle away to a family member.

You really do have a wonderful collection.

I think we have all been through the making choices wringer.

Glad you show your rifles off.

At a minimum it allows others to get educated & make wise purchases.

HDH you do have some great, collectible firearms and I thank you for showing them, we all learn more by seeing more. I try to help out where I can with what I know and what I own and have owned. The Internet has been great at spreading knowledge but at times it is also a curse with all the bad info that one needs to wade through.

I do miss my old friend and his gun store and knowledge, I get that comraderie from those that I have met on the Forums that I am on, there are a lot of very knowledgeable people that are happy to share what they know. Keep up the good work HDH, it is appreciated.

Thanks, at one time I did however like I said I sold off 17 of them. The ones I have now are keepers.

BTW most of the money from the sale of the 17 RC's went into this.

I remember thinking about bidding on a 1941 Johnson that was on auction over at RIA about 10 years back.

They aren’t cheap to procure by any means.

Had 2 uncles that used to argue about the 1941 Johnson.

One said it was unreliable due to small parts & another thought it was better than the M1 Garand.

Very nice collection you've got there Hansell and thanks for the pics, they really make a thread!

I see a bunch of nice semi-autos hiding out in some of those pics lol...

Can't wait to get my hands on a G41 or 43 some day.

Any unique waffenampts or other stampings/markings on any of them? I mean, they're all unique, but you know what I mean.

Also, 4th picture down in your OP, the second K98 from the right has a really nice almost sunburst orange looking stock. Any more pics of that beauty available?

Thanks!
