1300 calories for $1.49.
I'm going to start piling this up in the pantry. Read somewhere that civil war soldiers were issued this for the calories. Huge calories for cheap and it beats the heck out of milk and sugar in my coffee in the morning. |

For best results, turn the cans over every six months ( shake while turning ).
This goes for any canned milk. |

Lasts in the can a lot longer than evaporated milk, for some reason.

OP, if you ever want a nice treat and mix things up try making Dulce de Leche from it. Super easy to do. You will thank me later.

FYI, if you put the whole can in boiling water for 4 hours it makes a damn good carmel.

Turning them over and shaking them works until the can rusts through. In my experience it will be between 6-10 years.

I wonder if they make sweetened condensed Goat Milk ? It would probably be healthier than cow milk .

This is some good info. I keep a small stock of condensed milk normally. I don't use much milk maybe one small can a week, two if I bake some stuff. I never knew to turn the cans over, will have to do that when I rotate stock. I'm the kinda guy that if I use one, then I buy two more next trip in case I forgot to on my last trip to the store. For a single guy I have a pretty fair amount of canned goods stocked away. I'll pick up some of the sweetened for reasons mentioned.
Funny thing about that, I usually pick up a can or three of mushrooms every time I go to the market(and an onion or two). Hey, I like mushrooms. I noticed that they didn't have much on the shelf. Got home and put everything away and realized that I have more cans of shrooms in my cupboard than they have at the store. hey, was cheap entertainment for that moment anyway.

Picked up a can on last trip to my bug out location. I'll let it sit for awhile and see how it does.
Incidentally, a six year old bottle of Baileys Irish Cream was foul when I opened it recently. Wife had misplaced it. Anyway, apparently the shelf life is only good for a few months.

Condensed milk will darken with age, but it is still useable/good. I stocked up on a bunch of it and been rotating it out. Using it in sausage gravy over biscuits periodically. And yes, the cans will rust. Was thinking of spraying some with clear enamel as an experiment.
Good idea on the turning over and shaking, same goes for canned corn, peas, beans etc. just don't shake the veggies too much.

I did pick some up as well. I'm curious for some recopies that arn't pastries or candy to use it with. I'm sure there is some good stuff out there, I just don't know yet. Usually gamma's(whomevers) recipes are so much better than the internet "Martha" type recipes.

Just about every food store I've ever been in. I never knew the uses for it and still don't don't know much about it. But I do like learning new shit, so I really don't mind some education. Same goes the other way. I don't mind getting someone on the right path toward whatever it is I know. And sometimes I simply want to argue with somebody, cause I'm a dick. It all works out eventually.
There really has to be some uses outside of sweets that the stuff is good for.

Nails, as I mentioned in this thread, I use lots of condensed milk, maybe not lots, but some is a better description. I actually use it. Not just let it sit in the cabinet.
The sweetened, as titled, is full of sugar. i'm going for what do with all this shit we stockpile. Instead of simply stockpile this or that. Hell it might be the best burn remedy ever. How the heck would I know if no one says anything? And I do know about getting burned a little. I'm trying to generate some positive input into a potentially informative thread. I can have lots of shit, if I don't know what to do with it then what purpose does it serve. You ain't helping.

I was being serious and I only buy milk in the refrigerated isles, therefore have never seen it. I don't go around to study every thing they have on isles as I hate shopping, even for food. Get in, get out as fast as possible and avoid interactions with sheeple.

Comes in similar cans, but not the same stuff. Speaking of the Dollar Store, they have that shelf stable milk in quarts whole, 2% and 1%. Handy to have on hand and not bad tasting at all, much better than dried or evaporated. I have used it 2 years beyond the expiration date and noticed no deterioration in quality. It also seems to last longer in the fridge than regular milk does, once it is opened.

People forget, it will be fats which are hard to come by because they store so poorly. Condensed milk is a great source of fats.
