If it is in the holster then the holster is the safety, and the manual safety is disabled. One is always in the chamber because you can’t rack the slide easily with one hand (just ask George Zimmerman). If the gun coming out of the holster for any other reason than self defense, then the safety will be on—if it exists.

The most important thing I like to impress on new gun owners is that the holster IS the safety. That is doubly true for Glocks and other guns with no manual safety.

My prefer carry is a CZ Compact DA/SA with decocker. Works for me.

I do carry a Shield from time to time.

Or a DA/SA Snub Nose .38spcl.

They all work and haven't had issues.

I do notice I am more aware of the trigger while holstering the Shield. Looking for a shirt or damage to/or sagging of the holster leather backer.

Depends on what I'm carrying.
1911, round chambered, cocked and locked.
CZ Compact, round chambered, hammer down.
Glock, round chambered.

None of the guns I carry have safeties. They are carried ready to go and are designed to be used that way.

I say carry with a round in the chamber and the safety disengaged (if applicable). In a life or death situation, it's impossible to predict how you'll react. There's a good chance you'll forget to take the gun off safety and/or chamber a round.

An AK? An Iraqi once told me he preferred the AK safety over the AR. I tend to agree.

For serious work, chambered. On safety just like any professional killer would. This isn’t even debatable unless you are training noobs and retards.

Judging by the current poll results, people are just fucking with you. At least I hope they are because there's only one real answer if you actually carry all of the time and you really want to be able to save your life.

If you don't carry with one in the chamber, then just don't carry at all.

If you have an external safety, you should be practicing engaging and disengaging safety so it is second nature

Seriously though we just had this exact thread in a moderately serious manner maybe a month ago and it all boiled down to there being 2 types of people

Those that carry one in the chamber appropriate for the gun they are carrying glock/DA/SA/revolver

And those that are wrong and have no business with a gun because they don’t trust themselves to not negligently shoot themselves or someone else

In summary I’m surprised Nalioth did not shitcan this thread as a retread since having one such a short time ago

$5 says OP’s next thread is what’s your carry ammo and you bet your ass you thought that was a 12 y.o. remark? I have a lot of time behind a windshield I’ve got lots of material

I have to carry with one in the chamber, one hand to draw/shoot the gun and my other hand has to hold up my sagging pants.

I did not even vote, because the poll is flawed.

As others had stated, it depends on what your actually carrying at the time... And the complete lack of consideration taken for that has created a useless poll.

For posterity, 1911 type SAO, Cocked and locked, round chambered. Da/Said round chambered, hammer down, safety off. Poly striker? Chambered with manual safety off( if it exists, if I carry a poly gun, it's a Glock), with a revolver, well I just keep all my chambers loaded...

You carry how you train, and what works for you as a user, as well as the what readiness the situation dictates
There is no right and wrong, regardless of what people try to impress upon you. Your life, your legal or medical bill, your training, your decision.

Here's the 1940 Army manual for 1911's. This was what WWII carry was like in campaign, and not in campaign.

For those who think they will be ok in a potential situation without a round chambered, need to check out 'Active Self Protection' channel on YouTube or similar channel. It really shows you how fast things can go from 'normal' to 'oh crap.' When oh crap takes place, you might not have time to chamber a round.

This video has a ccw holder trying to thwart a robbery. He is carrying with an empty chamber. If you go to the 1:30 mark you see him actually pull the trigger on the empty chamber.

Currently, carry my Shield with a round in the chamber and the safety on. Have been debating lately to take the safety off.

+1 A double action revolver is the perfect combination of readiness and safety. A .357 gives you the option of shooting rounds equal in power to anything between a mild .380 and a hot 10mm. And a 4" barrel is the best compromise between handiness and velocity. S&W vs Ruger or Colt however is one of those Ford vs Chevy questions. I have a couple of Rugers and a Colt but wouldn't mind having an S&W 686, particularly the SSR!

I've been in "a few", and I agree with him. I won't tell somebody they have to have or prefer one, but the silly "you'll forget to flick it off" excuse is weak.

Mind the namecalling/fuck off stuff upstairs.

And whether I have been in 0 or 100 doesn’t make what I said any less true
Your trigger finger is no smarter than your thumb so if operating a safety is to complicated for you then so is keeping your trigger finger in the proper spot at the proper times

Carrying your EDC around without a round chambered is like driving around without your seatbelt on and saying you can buckle your belt before the accident happens. Some people like to live on the edge I guess.

My EDC is a lightweight Dan Wesson Guardian .38 Super in condition one.
Or a Glock 19, with one in the chamber, or a Ruger LCR.

Training, training, training!

I don't go around thinking my gun in unloaded.
I treat it like its loaded because it always is.
