Default Russian 7.62x39 ammo help.

I picked up 1500 rounds of this ammo on the cheap a while back and know nothing about this ammo as in quality etc.. All are sealed in white brick looking boxes, when opened 99% are light cardboard color 20 round boxes that dont say "non corrosive" on them. Very few have white 20 round boxes that say there "non corrosive". All rounds are hollow point.. I know I should treat as corrosive but have never came across these before as I didn't get into the AK game till 2 years ago so please excuse my ignorance. Just shot a brick of them today thru my M92 and was curious if there anything special or just fire away like there Tula/wolf etc. Thanks guys

I believe your ammo was made @ Ulyanovsk Machinery Plant State Production Association.

Head stamp "3" = Ulyanovsk and then the other number will be year of production.

I'm old & getting forgetful, so, thats all I got for now.

Right - most likely this is 8HP (precursor to 8M3) and a very good round. To know for sure pull a bullet and see if it has a plastic base. I have some other info on this round as well if needed (OAL etc.). Also, check to see if there are prefail cuts in the nose with a pin.

You seem to have 2 different brands of ammo in your larger pack....

The first box says "TCW Ammunition" (3rd pic) which is Tula Cartridge Works.

And the on the last photo, the logo at the top center is the logo for Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant.

(Ulyanovsk's logo is a circle with 2 arrows pointing left and right.)

So it appears you have a mix of Tula and Klimovsk. This could be an old brick that was put together by Wolf when Wolf had a contract to import and distribute both Tula and Klimovsk.

Head stamps will tell for sure. What are the numbers on the head stamps?

Yes for sure I might not have worded it correctly. The first pic only accounted for 120 rounds that were separate from the 12 white bricks that were sealed and have the boxes in them in the last 3 pics.. Those 120 rounds were shot 2 months ago, so again the only ammo left is the last 3 pics 12 bricks worth. Will get more info when I get home.

Ok, I openend up a brick last night and the headstamp was 711/94. So again the opinion is to not use this ammo as range ammo and stack it for when quality ammo is needed? Thanks guys for all your help and knowledge.

711 = Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant and it was made in 1994.

It's good stuff. Klimovsk makes a lot for the Russian military. However, they were one of the first Russian factories to export "sporting" ammo to the US back in the 1990's.

Not a huge deal, but I wouldn't trust the 'non-corrosive' labeling. Just clean accordingly.

After seeing the other thread I assume nothing.

I would store it because is it older and you don't see it anymore. But certainly shoot some of it because it isn't extremely valuable or anything.

Test some for fun and put the rest away along with the 8M3.
LGS 30 miles from me has a bunch of 8HP.

I shot about 100 rounds the other day, the other 1400 or so rounds will just sit in the event of a SHTF scenario. Thanks again guys.

That ammo looks and is packaged just like some bricks I have from the late 90's or so. I opened one up last year.
Great ammo. I'm still saving a few.
