Default Red Fiberglass Jungle stock sks Unfired

LGS has a couple unfired Norinco's in the box with the red fiberglass stock. After number offers and discussions he still wont sell it until he "finds out more" about it. I watched a slightly used one on GB just sit and not sell for minimum bid of $433. What is reasonable price for one of these unfired? are they that much more rare? I was expecting for it to be worth around 500ish. Its Real Clean.

The problem is these days, with SKS's worth 300-500 many of you old timers laugh at that. Its more efficient to buy an AK for that price. For me, I like the SKS and want it for my collection. Well see what happens with it.

I got an unfired non-matching Russkie SKS for about $500, so I would imagine that would be the top-end for a Norinco in a Jungle stock which to my knowledge weren't original to shipped rifles.

I presume commercial since Milsurp would have been fired?

I would assume commercial. from what i was reading it says the stocks are made in vietnam..and the military guns have a (67) on the butt plate which this one does not. Still cool but I would rather have a Russian since i dont have one yet.

The jungle stocks are IMHO the best replacement stock for a SKS. I have 2 and really like them. Stocks are not to hard to find, the hand guard can be a challenge.

They are "aftermarket" accessories.

What is the going rate on one of these stocks? I saw them available a couple years ago for like $35 but recently have seen ridiculous asking prices. There is a guy local selling a stock with gas tube cover for $70. Is it a good deal?

Depends on which version it is. Some are nice and smooth with a small seam or almost none, some are rough with a large seam running down the middle. I had one of the nice ones WolfsburgBob sold for $70 a while back but let it go on the SKS I put it on.
I have seen a nice write-up on the jungle stocks somewhere, can't find it now... I think it was AKBLUE that wrote it.

Looks clean, can't tell by this picture of the seams or how thick the stock is. I'll check it out in person. He has had it listed for about 2 weeks so maybe he will negotiate.

I bought a Chinese SKS with that stock in the 1980's.

The rifle was in new condition but was made in 1963 with a stamped sheet metal receiver.

People didn't want the stamped receivers in the 1980's.

The stocks have been made for both styles of bayonets.

I'm
Going give it a second look for the sheet metal reciever. It does have the factory /26\ on it this one has the bayo lug dangling but not attached. He said he will add another blade type from extra parts bin, hmmmm not original that lowers the price in my opinion

If the ferrule is fitted for a blade typ bayonet the fiberglass stock is not original either.

Stamped metal receivers weren't produced until the very late 60's (possibly not until the 1970's).

On my phone that stock looks like the good kind, but it never hurts to negotiate. The quality of the stock should be apparent whenever you handle it.

No. But a /26\ carbine with the ferrule slotted for a blade bayonet would have originally been matched to a wood stock.

By the time the fiberglass stocks first appeared, all type 56s were being made with spike bayonets.

So if the ferrule is slotted for a blade bayonet, the original stock would have been wood, and the fiberglass stock was a replacement.

But here would be no way to tell if it was replaced in China or here in the US post import.

Jeebus - I just sold one a few months ago for something like $30 or $35.

IIRC, all of the ones in the US with fiberglass stocks were restocked here. I could be wrong, as there are too many ChiCom "one-off" import batches. And, then there's Navy Arms imports, which wandered all across the Chinese spectrum.

.45ACP C96 Mauser, anyone?
