Gaddy, forgive my ignorance is that a 20" barrel and an A-1 buttstock? Does PSA still sell these (dissipator 20" chf)? Where is the buttstock from and do you like it? I've seen hollow ones advertised-just been kind of leery of hollow....

Looks like fun!

The dissipater is a 16" barrel with the site tower at rifle length. The gas block is at mid length on these. I think many of the true factory dissys like from Bushhmaster and others were carbine gas systems. This is just PSAs version and I like that its mid. I have not seen them at PSA for quite a while now.

The furniture is USGI with A1 stock refurbed by an outfit out of IL, but the name escapes me...something with ordnance in it. Ill try to find it and post a link. This is the 2nd set I have used from them and they are very nice. Price including new buffer tube, buffer was 143 shipped.

Looks good! I have had a set of M16A1 handguards and a short A1 stock on my Spikes Dissapator for a while now, I like the look! My Spikes Dissapator with my latest AR, a Spikes pistol build.

Nice looking Colt 605 (ish) clones. Mine is pretty much like yours Gaddy, same PSA upper at least.

Sweet rifles guys. Here is the vendor. They have different grades to choose from. I got the cheapest "fair"
both times. http://www.uscollectorsordnance.com/...Sets-c23332005

A true Dissy is a 16" rifle length gas system. Once you find out the right port size and buffer combo, they're supposed to be supremely soft and flat shooting.

I think the 3rd in line build in my head will be a true dissy.

Dissipators do not have rifle length gas tubes for a reason, dwell time. They might have started that way but switched to Carbine length pretty quick, now a lot are mid length. Both my Spikes and my true, factory Colt Ex CHP dissipators are Carbine length.

Yep, December 2016, Gander Mountain. It came in this SIG 400 box. One of my better buys. It is a sweet shooting rifle!

Okay, the A1 looking dissipator, is sexy. Makes me wish I still had mine to dress like that. Had a Spikes lightweight dissipator that AIM Surplus used to sell.

What buffer setup do you guys use with the A1/A2 butt stocks and mid length gas system, regular old rifle length?

This thread really makes me want to do one again.

My Spikes Dissapator is using a carbine length buffer in that extra short A1 stock. The Colt in the A2 stock is using a rifle buffer.

Thanks.
I was curious if if they were non rifle buffers with some sort of adapter to make up the difference in the stock.
Everyone else use rifle length buffers too?

Mine uses a rifle buffer. That combined with the mid-length gas system makes for a very smooth reliable shooter. It's one of my favorite ARs to take out and shoot.

I bought a "mock" dissapator from PSA as my second AR15. I had it on the range with my 6920LE. I noticed the lighter recoil. At the time I didn't realize that was going to be lighter. I just wanted to use the MOE rifle length hand guard so I had plenty of room for my cell phone charger and Coozie holder. Eventually I am going to go to a heavier buffer for all of my AR's. This includes my AR47's. Both of my 47's are midlength gassers.

Thinking about doing this with a 308. How does the handguard effect accuracy vs a free float rail? Anything noticeable at 16"-18" ranges? (Typically 50-600 yards)
