Default Sar K2 45 Review - $400 safe queen?

Alright, maybe it's not a "safe queen," but I am nothing but impressed with this double-stack, 14 +1 .45 Auto. Made for the Turkish military, it boasts a forged frame, forged slide, and a forged, chrome-finished barrel. Grip is round, but not too big. Most people with medium-sized hands will find it quite comfortable, I reckon.

Out of the box, the DA trigger was heavy - about 14-15 pounds. I found the DA trigger to lighten up a few pounds after a couple boxes of ammo and some DA dry firing.

Ahh, but the SA trigger is most impressive. LIGHT and SMOOTH. I don't have a gauge, but SA trigger pull feels about 4 pounds, maybe a few ounces less. The trigger action is also quite smooth, aided by the superior Tanfoglio firing pin block safety, instead of the CZ safety. Manual safety (no decocker, fortunately) and slide release are easy to reach. Safety is a bit stiff, but may loosen up with more use.

Fit and blued finish are very nice. Hammer has good traction and is very easily manipulated, for those who like to carry hammer down with one in the pipe. Take down is typical CZ: (1) cock the hammer; (2) line up the dot on the slide with the dot on the frame; and (3) push/pull the slide release lever out of the frame. Then slide the slide assembly forward off of the receiver. Minimal number of main parts - no complicated RSA's or bushings to deal with.

There are some minor tooling marks inside the slide and frame, as well as at the muzzle. Nothing too irksome, and they certainly don't affect function.

Mags are awesome 14-round, blued Mec Gar. Comes with one mag, but new OEM mags can be had for ~ $27.

Feed ramp is nicely polished, and chamber fully supports cartridge case. I have not tried it, but at least one other owner has reported the ability to upgrade the recoil spring and shoot +P and even 45 Super. I do not doubt this claim in the slightest - this thing is a tank.

Comes with an adjustable rear sight (windage and elevation) and key to adjust it. A few clicks to the right and up, and we were right over the bullseye at 7 yards.

Going to try shooting with my glasses next time to see how tight I can make those groups. No failures of any type after 150 rounds.

Not bad for $381!! Got mine on GB, but Grabagun and Impact Guns have them for just under $400:

http://grabagun.com/european-america...4-5-bl-as.html

http://www.impactguns.com/eaa-sar-k2...566600654.aspx

You can find SS slide versions for a bit more, too. For home, ranch, woods, range or SHTF use, I highly recommend the Sar K2 45.

I've been suggesting the K2/45 to folks for years when the "what .45 pistol?" subject comes up.

They are overlooked a lot.

I'm not sure what you're asking.

Is a Ford Crown Victoria the same or better than a Ford Crown Victoria?

Para P14 mags are supposed to fit. Don't know about the Witness mags.

I believe Wolff recoil springs for the Witness are compatible, but I have not tried them myself.

No.

The Witness .45 does not have the same mag capacity ( the K2/45 holds more rounds )

That boy is nice. Didn't know they offered them in steel frame or .45
Only seen a few of the polymer frame 9's every once in a while
Definately like that setup better

Dang it guys! I already have a PT111 G2 on order because of this part of the files and now..... I am going to jump on one of these also.

This will go nicely with the Tanfoglio CZ 75b copy for the IMI THAT I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET BEFORE THEY DRIED UP...... also because of the files.

The knowledge here is fantastic and has really caused me to acquire some great deals on some great pistols.
So I have started to search the web for the best deal on the K2 but has anyone found a GREAT deal on one that has a perk of maybe two mags instead of one?

Thanks.

I like the trigger on my tangfolio chohai better than my 75 compact. The K2 is next on my pistol list.

The outer edge of the muzzle is more rounded on the left and bottom in the photo than the top and right. I think the bore is centered, but the muzzle finish is just not uniform.

Sar K2 mags do NOT feed Tula steel cased ammo reliably. Too much friction created between cases and mag body. Everything else I've found runs flawlessly.

If they made one with a decocker I would be willing to pay significantly more than what they're asking for it. Still, at 14 + 1 and half the price of the Para I think I may have just found my 1st 45. Thanks guys!

These are an excellent choice in my opinion as well.

I haven't bought one yet, but it's a no brainer VS what they are charging for domestic stuff now.

Excellent contribution OP with the pics.

I read that the springs on these are about 13 pound rated and that a 16# is what would be required if a person was to shoot +P through these.

Has anyone else read anything about this?

Also that the standard CZ type springs would fit.

I'd love to see that detail stripped. I just worked over a P-01 with a bunch of go fast parts from Cajun. That looks really similar.

Sear cage looks different'ish. Like the FPB lifter sits the opposite way. Trigger spring and pin look like they could swap.

Very similar stuff though.

Just got mine in, nice gun. Everyone I check online are sold out of the mags though. Have you found any in stock (besides the para's) Echo?
Don't know how true this is, but someone recently posted on a review on Bud's that EAA is no longer going to import these.

These have what looks like full supported chambers. My 16 pound Wolff spring came in and also some +p I ordered. It will be a while before I can get out to see what happen though. With a SIG type lock and a massive 40 ounce weight I think it will be fine but I am not a gunsmith nor do I advise this to anyone, this will be my own experiment.

Don't know of any other place that has Sar brand mags right now, but I will jump on them next time they come around. Planning to get the Wolff recoil spring calibration pack for EAA Witness to test out, too.

Took the SAR out yesterday and ran a box of Federal through her and she ran perfect. Adj the sights a-little and sa ores my time enjoying every last drop!

Also took out the 10mm witness poly, man if you don't have one of these you are flat missing out. The bark between the 45 and the 10 is quite profound along with the flames. HOOKED!
