Default SG Ammo with a mag set for sale again

If you're looking for a starter AK47 mag set, SG has them in stock again

http://www.sgammo.com/product/surplu...pean-military-

There's only 12 in stock from time of posting but it consists of

1 - Hungarian Magazine Pouch (5 mag capactiy, brown)

5 - Excellent to Like New AK mags of varying origin (some greased up)

If the mag pouch is $10 this amounts to 14 dollars per magazine. I think this should be a good starter mag set and especially if they are excellent to like new for only 14-15 dollars per mag. It's also always good to support Sam.

He didn't seem to announce it anywhere so I just wanted to give a heads up.

Even before shipping it's not a screaming deal. Better to go look in the MP.

Honestly non-specialty good condition surplus mags should be 8, 10 bucks tops, shipped

SG ammo has kind of sucked post election, lots of places are cheaper for both ammo and mags.

which is weird. Pre-election they had awesome prices, but post election they're constantly beat by Sportsman's Guide, TargetsportsUSA and several other places on a REGULAR basis

If you don't want the mag pouch it is over $18 a mag. You can almost get fair-good Chinese flatbacks in the MP for that price

I must agree with the majority here, Sam is a great guy and should be a model for all businessmen but this isn't that great of a deal.

I'll still buy my cases of ammo from him even if they cost a bit more than other vendors who don't give a crap about their customers.

I love SGammo for fast reliable shipping and great prices on things like HST, but get my mags in other places. Not everyone can get the best deal on everything to pass on to us. That's just how it is.

yup, they got good ammo prices mostly (you can have sales at other places beat them), but their mag prices are only "meh". Arms of America and 44mag have given me GREAT deals on mags

The one good thing that comes from this magazine set though is that SG ships to Cook County wheareas other websites like refuse to come anywhere close to Chicago. Whatacountry doesn’t process Billing addresses in cook, apex, numrich and arms of America require an out of area address.

Agree. When they had the Hungarian 10 packs for $89 was a good deal. And when Aim had yugo surplus for $8.99 was a deal. No real mags deals right now just stock up on ammo

The last group of these were in avg condition at the same price. This is a better deal than the ones I got a few months ago.I am new to AKs and naively overpaid for what I got. I agree about warehouses full of probably unissued mags but disagree about Europe not releasing them for fear of the bear.Europe would count on us to bail them out and most NATO allies are 5.56 now anyway. It does strike me as Marketing 101 in a soft gun market.

I just got the 4 for $50 (+ mag pouch and oiler) from Arms of America and they were all in good codnition. Basically grade 2s... for the price I don't think it can be beat (for that type of deal)

I just received the SGAMMO set. Although it's not really a "good" deal on the magazines I would say that the Pouch was very good and the 5 magazines all appeared to be all VG-EX Hungarian Magazines. No rust, but some finish wear near where the magazine rubs against the magazine well. Can someone confirm my ID?

They have good deals on Federal HST and Speer gold dot ammo though.I'm a big fan of SG. Love the 8m3 they offer as well. Nobody else has it that I'm aware of.

I really wish we could standardize on the way we write Sportsman's Guide vs. Sam Gabbert Ammo. Just because someone knows what they mean when they abbreviate it doesn't mean that's how the reader will interpret it.

It could be as simple as SG and SGA or SG and SGAmmo or maybe just always write Sportsman's Guide long form. During my tenure here it seems that the Gabbert's operation is almost always "SGAmmo".

Good point! SG and SGA seem to be the best bet imo. So it is written?

I only buy the $25.00 5 packs of "broken, rusty dented" mags from SG Ammo. Probably ordered 6-7 packs of them over last couple years and only had 1-2 mags that I couldn't get serviceable again. They are out of stock now but they get them in every now and then. Last 2 packs I got were all yugo.

SG Ammo, was just giving a saddle soap, leather oil job on a 4 pack deal of his from a few years back.. Hungarian 30 rounders, shiny painted, plus these pouches. Got two pouches worth. Using one of the pouches on my MC. I altered the other to hold 40 rounders. Nicklel snaps relocated up towards the top of the pouch, and lower on the leather tabs. It still functions as a 30 round pouch with the commy hardware. Got in on a 5 pack deal in the Hungy Green vinyl with shoulder strap. These were a kinda black parked finish, newer than the shiny ones. 10 pack of the rusty dented yielded all Yugo BHO, two had real nice blued finish, oiled cloth made em look new. Only 3 were dented bad, did some body work on em. The other 5 are blued also, couple of spots pitted, they function fine. Real robust the Yugo mags, really like them.

Also got a 3 pack of "like New Yugo" from Sam, these were really nice! 3 pack of those tall mortar cans was a winner too. They go on the van roof rack crammed full of camping gear. Get some looks from the "Black Torpedo looking thing on my Subaru roof" crowd. OD green, still have all the stencils proclaiming the former contants. I like to get cans with the ammo shipments, or magazines, usually get 500 to a thousand per order, sometimes X54r, tok ammo, or .38 spl. he had some reall nice European .38, Hungarian I believe. Vollmantel German stuff too. 158 FMJ, beautiful brass. Always have had good experience with Sam's outfit.
