Default Century Arms PSL Importation Announcement

We're excited to announce that Century Arms will be importing the famous Puşcă Semiautomată cu Lunetă (PSL) once again! We do not have an ETA however they are currently on the way.

There will be 2 models available. One model will come with a non-matching Russian optic, while the other one comes with a serial matching Romanian optic to the rifle.

No price details other than it will be more expensive than previous offerings due to production costs. When we have more information, we will let everyone know.

Where are you seeing a $2,000 price?

It's all over the place... They will assuredly all sell out fast, but that doesn’t mean they’re worth that price. The PSL was never a very accurate rifle. Most of my AK’s have been more accurate than most of the PSL’s I’ve seen and the PSL is the only (non-American made) Kalashnikov I’ve seen have reliability issues regularly. Someone will pay $2000 for a PSL, but that doesn’t mean they’re worth that price. A lot of people will want one for the 'cool factor' and because they really know nothing about the quality of the rifle. I have a feeling that a lot of buyers will have next day remorse after they get it to the range.

Seems pretty extreme. This does not well describe my PSL, nor many other owner experiences.

Are they expensive? Yes. Expensive compared to when last imported? Yes. A bad value. I don't think so considering what they have been selling for on the secondary market and their uniqueness and history. Are they built to as high quality standards or shoot as well as much less expensive firearms, absolutely not.

Lots to keep in perspective.

Ironically it never describes 'your' rifle... I'm not saying that all are bad rifles, that they're all inaccurate and unreliable. I'm not even saying most are. I'm saying I've seen it far too often for me to want to pay $2,000 for.

Unlike almost every other AK variant out there, the PSL is the only variant I've ever repeatedly heard owners (and hardcore AK users) say they'd choose another rifle if they had a choice.

Mine was reliable....with the mags it came with. Almost every one I bought used/extra for it had issues.

Ditto on accuracy too. Cold barrel and 7n1, slooow shooting It did alright, but even going the distance didn't shoot as well as my Chinese M14 clone.

Once it was warmed up, it was all over the place...even worse with regular surplus stuff, silver tip etc. Better optics didn't help. I bought new for $589, sold off for $1800 with the extra scope and a little ammo, never looked back.

It's a well-known fact that magazines were hand fitted from the factory. The barrel heating up issue is simply the nature of the design. Other than that reliability are generally few and far between when using the proper ammo. I'm sorry but this is just blatant spreading of bad information.

Then that's another strike against the platform... It's not a Lee Enfield that's meant to be loaded from the top with charger clips, it's specifically designed to be reloaded with magazines. If the only ones that run reliably are those that have been fitted to the rifle it's not a reliable system, is it?

The barrel heating issue is the nature of a poor quality barrel.

Please explain your reasoning on that?

I can't possibly imagine the reasoning for that.

Also, I have never seen so many ill-informed and ignorant statements in a company's sales announcement thread before. At this point I just feel bad for the vendor. Can't we just let this thread die and go away instead of encouraging it to continue on?
