Default How is this Egyptian ammo?

Traded an old box of Norma 7.7 Jap and 6.5 Carcano for this box and 100 rounds of 7n6 in a baggie at a local flea market. Actually there was an old box of 300 Something from my end as well. I didn't have any of those calibers so I picked up something I could use...that is after I replenish what was lost in the epic boating accident.

Interesting looking box.

I had a couple of similar looking boxes I picked up at an estate sale, same size cardboard with the Arabic writing, but it was British 303.

Fired fine, no hangfires, not particularly dirty, no more or less accurate than typical Milsurp.

i would have to agree. Had some Egyptian made 7,62x54R ammo, 50 round box, brass/berdan/corrosive.

rifle shot a 10 inch group @ 50 yards.

powder charges varied between 2 and 5 grains. Some were duds. Ended up pulling the bullets, putting the powder in a small cup and watched the fireworks.

I got a few boxes of that stuff.

I want to say I remember shooting some off awhile back, and it kinda smelled like burning dog shit.

I have some of it too. Doesn't look to bad on the outside but we all know looks can be deceiving.

Never mustered the courage to shoot any of it. Will probably tie my WASR to a tree and put a long string on the trigger to test some.

This covers it,sell it to a collector, not worth a damn to shoot.
7.62x39 and .303 were both 8-10 inch groups at 50 yards!!
Only worse ammo i have seen/shot is Pakistani.

I remember buying some old Paki ammo for my Enfield, about 10% of the cartridges had split necks, after weeding those out, about half of the remaining ones would give about a 2-3 second hangfire.

I still have some of that Egyptian 7.62x39, and some 9mm as well. Looks nice in the ammo stash, but not my first choice for actually shooting.

Back around 1987 Century Arms imported quite a bit of Egyptian 8 mm ammo (along with the Hakim and FN49 rifles) and I purchased several thousand rounds when I took a road trip to the Century warehouse. It was dirt cheap and in beautiful condition.

Based on some of the statements made here about Egyptian ammo I have to wonder if I got lucky but my ammo was 100% sure fire and it seemed as accurate as any other surplus 8x57 mm ammunition I had used.

The 8mm was great ,the rest to include 9mm not so much.

I found some success in cutting down on the hangfires, by letting it sit on the dashboard, in the hot summer sun coming through the windshield of my pickup.

+1., I have., or had a crate of 1200 rounds of Egyptian brass cased 8mm. Good shooting and reliable.
I'm almost to the bottom of the case.

I have Egyptian 7.62x39 and tracer but it is not so reliable,.

Interesting ,always seemed to be primers going bad in lots i was around.
Heard of lots of pierced primers and say a few, thats why i pulled a bunch
down. Rough on bolt faces and potentially your vision!

The Egyptians did not use primer and projectile sealant on much of their ammo. Moisture degradation was common and misfires the result.
