I don't remember where I got it but you see them all over the place, I think amazon and centerfire both carry them among others. I've seen them priced as high as $20 and as low as $8.

Hey Dragynn, I saw your post on AR about counter sinking the flash supressor on the V2, yours looks great. I need to do mine but don't have a drill press. I would imagine you had to clean up the threads a bit when you were done with 1x1/4 reverse thread tap?

Hey Johnny, thanks! Actually I didn't need to, I got lucky and got a real clean edge and it went right on, the one thing I didn't mention, is that I started the widening process with a bevel bit, looks like a fat cone shape, went a little ways with it, then switched to the regular drill bit. The barrel has a little bit of a slope as it widens to the regular OD from the pinned area, and I wanted to match that slope to retain all that contact area for maximum strength.

sounds good, did you use a drill press? that paint job you did is something else, very cool.

How do you like the handguard on your 7.62? I'm thinking about getting the same one.

Looks better than the carolina shooters hand guard. Nice job.

Yep, had to, I don't mind rednecking a lot of things, but something that's gonna have a projectile flying through it at supersonic speeds, well, I figgered that needed to be pretty straight.

I like the SGM handguard, nice solid piece, does add some weight though, in the end I wish I had gotten the x39 in the type 2 configuration like the .308, has much better balance, the x39 is badly front heavy in the current configuration, but I wanted to be able to use a forward mounted co-witnessing red-dot so I tried it. Trying some thing a little different now:

urban camo version of the one on the .308, it's a little in-your-face, but fun, I get bored sometimes with the way my guns look and have to re-do everything, thinking about ponying up the bucks to go to cerakote school, that and hydro-dipping will probably be my next forays into gun art...well, "art" may be a stretch, lol.

Forgot to add this....

Since these photos, I've removed the Ultimak tube as it was causing the rifle to be a bit undergassed and I was getting some FTEs. After the swap, it has been flawless.

Well I went traditional instead, been wanting to see how chopping the factory thumbhole would work:

Ordering a Molot grip next I think, and an RPK type sling for authenticity's sake.

I thought about doing that at one point but ended up playing around with the surplus stock instead. Nice work.

My Saiga .308 conversion
It is very effective in the 200 yd. range.
Consistently. Even after it's warmed up.

I love this thread.
Those Vepr's are incredible, as well as the Saiga's.

Awesome looking rifle you got there. How long is the barrel on that thing? Can you get the scope rail off with the stock hinge being on the left side? It seems to interfere?

Just bored with that particular rifle. I'll probably do something somewhat similar with a 20" VEPR, but definitely not bored with shooting. I got some damn good deals on a couple expensive add-ons, so I'll do OK on this.

Those look like a couple of nice, fire-breathing conversions, Matt. I really want a 16" T2 54R VEPR. They look great.
