I'm 99% sure that Childers (Dark Knight here) & 74u LLC will make one for you if you request it (AK Builder.com has flats still).

I could be wrong.

But I'm pretty sure it's true.

Dave at 74Ullc might make you one if you ask nice enough. It's not an official offering though and you might want to kick him a few extra bucks, but it will be the best out there.

Childers said they are way to busy right now.
I talked to Dave at 74Ullc, he's so busy he won't be able to do one for some time.
I talked to Nodak Spud & they said they won't do any nds-8 until a bunch of rpk74 kits hit the market.
I talked to some blank companies also, they have no plans either.
I keep hearing that the AKB's rpk flats are way out of square on the top rail, enough to cause bolt carrier lock up, I have AKB rpk47 & 74 flats.
All the other options including CSS all have the mag well dimples & none of them have the trigger dimples, AKB flats are the closest 1's to original.
Encouraging news is Matt at ReCreator Blanks is planing on doing some proper blanks for the rpk 74.

You could also consider sending a bent blank to Dave. If he likes it enough it might be a good compromise.

No why would they do a run for 500 people when other receivers they cant keep in stock are selling by the 1000's. They also lose 1/3 of the receivers or something like that in the heat treating process or something like that is what nodak said

Nodak told me a couple of weeks ago that unless a bunch of RPK74 kits hit the market, they wont do them.

I received an email today from Matt at ReCreator Blanks, It sounds like he may just take this on!

The rpk74 would not be an rpk74 unless it was on an rpk74 receiver. Which is what the correct parts deserve.

I really want a receiver for this one, I don't want to buy a vepr and weld up the back, pull the barrel etc etc on a $800 gun. Plus I want to use this cool molot 1985 restamp trunnion. If I am smart I will just use the fixed trunnion and buy a plum stock set, hell maybe wood for $150-250

If I had to do the vepr I guess I could sell the front/rear trunnion... They have to be worth a lot. They wouldn't go cheap at all.

Sorry for the rambling. I am cranky and tired.

The Nodak RPK-74 receiver, NDS-8 (?), pops up on gunbroker periodically. They ain't cheap when they do though.

Maybe put a Want To Buy post in the Marketplace?

God damn, $400 dollars. I hope it took them out to dinner for that price. I guess you have to pay to play.

I thought it was high too. Someone mentioned there may be vepr's that are serialized on the actual receiver? Is this true? I would gut one of those before i paid 400 for a NDS

Turbo or Krebs re-welds the back. i wonder what kind of trunnion they have in the back... if it is standard i would have a spare front/rear trunnion.

the serialized reciever is what had me thinking about using one, that way you wouldnt have to worry about taking front trunnion out.

my only problem is that I would have to shelf my 1985 circle 10/Molot trunnion. i guess i could wait until david riggs has the ability to make a receiver.

I was thinking about the barrel on say a 16" vepr, could someone turn it for me and make say an aks74u barrel or aks74 barrel. I assumed the fluted barrels won't work so I would have to find a standard version.

Take a vepr 5.45 and yank the barrel, Reweld the back and use it for the rpk74 build like you are saying. Sell off any spare parts...

Couldn't you use the vepr barrel on a future build, turn it to "krink" specs? It would be like having a Russian barrel blank...

Or it would be a waste of a good barrel. I am unfortunately scatter brained... I am thinking about this build and then the two after unfortunatly.

The top rail can be machined. I found an 07 that will use ak-builders flats and can do custom serial numbers. He can laser engrave the molot selectors, I sent him a pic of the real deal... But I will probably have mine done bare so I can use weaponmark's etching kit.
If enough people want one, probably 8 more including my two, he will go ahead and and do it...
He will lose afew to heat treat probably.
He is going to use my trunnion to make a jig for the front end. I will get some pictures of his work and pricing, serial and info will go under trigger guard.
He should have pricing after the holiday.

this is happening by the way, the first two are at heat treat and if they don't warp too bad then we are in business.

he is most likely adding the correct trigger embossment on the bottom if they come out right. Correct markings, custom serials for the ones who want them for an extra charge.

Do you know where a handfull of Romanian rpk trunnions are? Apex is out. A forum member shed some light on how to get one to work and it honestly doesn't sound that hard.

Also there is a vepr blue_hammer has, if someone wanted the trunnion I would take some odds and ends from the kit and maybe we could arrange a mutually beneficial deal.
