Default Got my first Mosin

Picked this up today for $300
All the numbers match, receiver 1946, buttplate, magplate, except the bolt is different number.
Overall looks unissued but the bolt is definitely seen some use.
Tiny CAI import mark. Stock has a few dents here and there but is solid with no cracks.
Bluing looks very clean and it is not counter bored. Rifling and inside of barrel look new.
I already took it apart and got any leftover cosmo out.
He gave me a sling and 20rds of some copper washed surplus ammo.

Thanks guys, the bolt not matching the
receiver sorta has me puzzled, like I should have the headspaced checked
but the action feels nice and tight.
Bolt lug looks good and the recess looks new.
Feels like a new gun, I gonna go test fire it thurs

Congrats! Looks nice. Everyone should have one, though they do kick like a mule. I have a 1943 m39, it's a keeper.

Your next Mosin should be an M39.

Trust me on this.

Op, Nice looking m44. $300, not too bad in today mark up.

The m44 and T53’s Mosin Carbines are my fav to shoot in the Mosin Variants.

I'm not a fan of the ChiComs in any pattern, not for quality reasons or anything tangible, I just don't like Chinese shit lol. So you did well going M44 over T53. $300 is a GREAT price, considering when I bought mine about 5 years ago that was the average price around here.

I remember my first encounter with one. I always loved the Mosin Rifles as a kid, because they just worked for me in Call of Duty (True story, lol. Hey, I was a kid in a gun-free state, CoD was my only exposure!) and when I moved up to Texas, a buddy took me shooting. He introduced me to the M44 with a story about when he bought it, the most stereotypical hill-folk came up to him as he was buying it and said "That's a great deal kid, see, you buy a rifle and get a flame-thrower for free!"

Well, one magazine down and I was in love. Went out the very next day and bought a beat-to-shit-and-back Izzy M44. Sadly, I parted with it a year later to get a PRISTINE non-refurb Izzy SKS, but I later added not only another Izzy M44 but the exact Polish M44 he took me to shoot that day which I fell in love with.

Get you a polak next, and enjoy the free flamethrower!

If you can get a nice T53, since usually their covered heavily in cosmoline (if not prior cleaned) and the stocks are pretty banged up. But all in all, the T53s are good shooters. And also they do have better triggers than most m44s. My T53s def have better trigger pulls than my 2 Russian m44s.

Some friends and I, scored some really good examples in 2014. A local shop acquired 11 Type 53 Chinese Mosin Carbines. And since I have done lots of business, prior with local shop owner, he let me and some friends have them OTD at $128.00. I picked up 2. One buddy bought 4 (sold one). And 2 other friends bought one a piece at that price. They all cleaned up well. Most had decent to good bluing left on them. The stocks were in bad shape (greased up and well worn and scratched. No cracks though, which was good. But we refinished the stocks after a thorough de-cosmoline process of the wood and metal.

My cents. If you see a decent priced T-53 Chinese Mosin with good bluing left, strong bore, and a non-cracked stock. Highly recommend picking one up. The triggers are really clean on them too.

Here’s another photo my Mosin Carbines. My 2 T53s are on the bottom.

I ordered a surplus cleaning kit thingy with bolt protrusion gauge and a okie field gauge.
I figured it would be a good investment since I plan on buying more rifles.

Nice. Good call. I have many Mosins. So I too, always have the gauge tool handy at my gun cleaning table. So whenever I re-assemble the bolts back together, post cleaning, after shooting corrosive ammo. Itís near by, when I need it.

One thing I noticed, after looking carefully the sling that came with the rifle is not a Mosin sling.
Im starting to think its a Romanian Leather SKS sling...
Really good condition too heh

LOL.

There is NO shame.

I just tell myself it's for "length of pull" because the rifle stock is too short....

I have a recoil paid or two I use for my Mosins, that I slide on the stock if I tend to put a lot of rounds thru them at the range. Your shoulder will feel it after a bunch of rounds for sure.
