Default Russian Ammo Imports

Have any of you heard of any decline of Russian ammo imports? I've been trying to find 5.45x39 ammo and it's extremely hard to find in stock anymore. The stuff I do find is normally expensive.

For that matter, Russian 7.62x25 steel cased ammo is hard to find, and most 7.62x25 ammo has gotten expensive (of the stuff that remains). 9x18 Makarov ammo has gone up in price. And I noticed there's less and less availability of 7.62x39.

Is this just a short spurt of lower imports, and eventually more will come back? Or is something else going on here?

If Mishaco has any insider input, that'd be awesome.

Thanks for the input

Armslist is a local thing and that can be feast or famine. I am a 5.45 guy.. I haven't seen a single add for 7N6 for sale yet( though a few WTB adds to be sure). but I've seen a dozen bubba'd Mak 90s in the last year. Its kinda shitty. Com bloc calibers won't last long there. the MP here is sometimes worth it and sometimes not. Try ammoseek, SGAmmo and go from there.

I believe that actual Russian made 7.62x25 ammo was on a no-no list from a long time back. Academy Sports usually carries 7.62x25 either Winchester Metric or S&B for 21-25 a box.

25 bucks or more on a online order gets free shipping.

They are currently showing Monarch 5.45x39 in stock at 5.49 a box.

Russian 7.62x25 is banned from import per the VRA, if you even manage to find some it was brought in prior to 1996, or was tossed over the canadian border.

If you don’t know where to buy ammo it doesn’t mean it is not available. Tokarev is always not that cheap and popular ammo but you could buy brass. Russian Makarov ammo is available, same price as before. 7.62x39 is for sale at any place I check, same price. False alarm...

There still seems to be less of it than there was even this time last year. Wolf mil-spec lacquered 5.45x39 has been harder to find in stock at SG (they have t now, but it was OOS for a long time) and Russian 6.5 Grendel has been very difficult to get lately and the price is steadily rising.

seems like there is a good supply of 7.62mm ammo at the moment. The only 7.62 ammo SG has OOS is Red Army Standard and Yugo surplus.

Good time to stock up IMO.

7.62x25 PPU is generally available and at a decent price.

You'll pay the same for steel as brass, so get brass and reload.

Got lucky and scored four boxes of 60 rounds and 2 boxes of 70 rounds Norinco 7.62x25 at a local flea market. Was surprised to find it there, guy said make me an offer I can’t take it back home. I thought $30 was fair and so did he.

I ended up buying some of the 5.45 you recommended. Thank you!

I recognize that ammo is still out there, I guess the point I was making is it seems to be in much smaller quantities and more expensive than it used to be. Especially with 5.45. Everywhere I checked, even gun dealers, seem to have a hard time getting large quantities of it.

It doesn't mean it's not out there and disappeared -- just not as much as just a few years ago. Also less variety than there used to be.

Thanks for the SG Ammo links! That's a good find.

Academy Sports is a good company to deal with, i don't have a store within 300 miles of my place. i never had a issue on a order and sometimes that Monarch 5.45 ammo will go on sale at 4.49 a box so check weekly.

I've also ordered 7.62x25 S&B off them when they have it in stock, thats the one i have trouble finding locally.

That can be said about any imported or surplus ammo. They are not bountiful and dirt cheap like they used to be (not trying to sound like a "back in my day" FUDD) but more so to explain that those days have been coming to a close and one needs to stock ammo so we can shoot and enjoy those calibers for a long time.
