Oregon is center of the hippy dippy tri-state area of the North West. Im not surprised the libtards of the area, whos only knowledge of gun laws is what they learn form goofy shows like Criminal Minds and CSI, would be shocked to see a citizen open carry and call the cops.

Notice the Arizona Flag on guys hat. Here in Arizona, not one person would even blink at a citizen open carrying, its so common. Cops dont even give a second look at a carrying citizen.

These cops are just doing their job checking on this guy, who stands his ground, but yeah, the cops come across as "tools" when they start harassing him.

The female cop sure didn't like that guy. Good for him for standing his ground on telling her he didn't have to show her his id. That's one reason I don't personally open carry. He sure did piss off that female cop though!

I still feel the same - how can a LE know if someone can legally carry or be in poessesion of a firearm without a simple ID check.

Can a citizen walk up and ask if you legally allowed to carry your weapon? no, then a cop does not have the right either

God I'm glad I moved out of Oregon. Oregon has got to be one of the most liberal states we have. That means everybody thinks they know everything and they are always right.

Doesn't surprise me for being a dick to the cops. The Portland area is very low on police support from the public. I was in a restraunt and seen 2 cops walk in. They just sat down when the owner came up and asked them to leave. Seems like half the people started cheering.

Why not? If you have nothing to hide then why be a dick when it's not needed? You can pretty much bet that you will spend more time by not showing your ID then if you did and be on your way.

Different states have different laws on this topic. What may be legal in Arizona doesn't mean it's legal in other states.

So whats your solution to convicts open carrying - that cannot be questioned.

They are breaking the law - but one will never know who is supposed to have a gun...as we cannot check.

Because it sets precedent. With no probable cause a cop has no business demanding you show ID, so the better we as citizens assert and protect our rights, the better chance we have of fighting any erosion of them by law enforcement.

I personally don't open carry. If you want to, more power to you. The main reason I don't open carry is that it ruins any tactical advantage that I would have in a "social" encounter out there. If a criminal is intent on causing you harm he will simply shoot you immediately if he sees that you're carrying. If you're carrying concealed he's going to feel more at ease and hopefully will be careless. Which allows me to repond properly to his threat. Or at least give me a fighting chance.

The act of simply carrying a firearm is not indication of committing of a crime. Therefore, not viable grounds to be stopped, questioned, or detained. Period.
No different than walking down the street not carrying a firearm as it pertains to obligation to identify yourself to a LEO in a non-criminal scenario.

His response to the LE's statement about "don't you know what it makes people think/feel like when they see you with a gun?" Should have been something like:
"I'm sorry that they (and you) are uneducated/informed of the law, however I'm not, and am conducting myself well within the law. I suggest that you educate and inform your dispatchers and officers to explain to people calling in that because they see a citizen carrying a firearm does not imply criminal activity, and they should consult local codes/ordinances".

He should not be stopped, questioned, or harassed because of the lack of understanding/education on behalf of the ignorant general public.

I'll also say this.
If he hadn't been videoing the interaction it would have probably gone way different. Also that if he'd been in a vehicle, it would probably have resulted in an illegal search of his vehicle as well.
I know it would here with the ass-hat cops we have.


I was recently extracted (felony stop style) from my vehicle and held
@ gunpoint while the cop called for backup, all because I informed the LEO that I had a firearm inside the vehicle (as I'm supposed to).
I offered to produce it and surrender it to the cop if he'd like while we interacted (it was closed up inside the center console). Instead, he freaked out and removed me from my truck @ gunpoint, held me there (in a t-shirt in -8* temperatures) for 40 minutes while his backup arrived.
They then illegally searched my truck, and seized my firearm (all while I was telling them that they were committing an illegal search/seizure)...

End result was:
2 hours later I was given back my gun, and given a ticket for window tint. This was march, and unbeknownst to me the city code on vehicles with window tint were changed in January by the new mayor...

Fuc& cops.

I can understand what your saying on this and I agree with you. I will show my ID to police if asked as I have nothing to hide. However, if the cop is a dick, or I have the slightest feeling that he is trying to bait me into something then that's when all communication will stop.

Bulgy, I have shown my ID to police in the past so as not to "rock the boat". Afterwards I felt stupid about it as I was doing absolutely nothing wrong and was inconvinienced while my ID was held hostage for a few minutes. "Papers please" is an EU thing, not here.
