Saiga 12 import question

Tried a quick search at the saiga12 forum but came up nil. Is there any difference between the EAA & RAAC imports? Only thing I can think of is possibly the sight post difference as in the older ones are threaded & the newer(RAAC) like mine are welded & can`t be removed. As far as I know they`re identical other than importer but had someone ask me so trying to confirm. Thanks much.

The difference between the adjustable sight posts and the fixed is in the model I believe the fixed is the IZ109 and the adjustable is IZ108

Ok thanks. I`ve got the IZ109, non-adjustable. I wish I had the threaded front post & adj. rear so I could add one of the available rails that utilize the threads. Oh well, still love it. I did call RAAC & was told that at the time of EAA imports they were less known so production had to be stream-lined a bit to keep up as the reputation for the Saigas grew under RAAC. Also not all of the EAA guns had threaded barrels & bho`s as standard as they are w/ RAAC guns.

My 2001 EAA had a crappy rail that had an 'adjustable' front sight. Piece of crap sighting system. No front sight on barrel at all. I ditched the rail and added a Kalashnikov front sight and replaced the rear rail mount with a plain dovetail sight. I did keep the rail stud though.

The barrel is 22" non-threaded and no bolt hold open device.

Good to know Etek. So the rail systems that utilize the adjustable sights aren`t worth it? IIRC the rail I`ve seen uses the existing threads(front post) for mounting, not sure about rear sight. I just recall from Atlantic`s site that they said their particular top rail would not work w/ the newer, welded front post.

I think either tromix or dinzag has a weldable hk style halo sight on one of their websites, if you are looking to change your current situation. The adjustables are a little chincy but it is nice to have the option of adjustment.
