Hey guys i buying a 74 off a local guy, he built it.

so far all i got is that its a unfired, besides factory test fire, all matching blugy kit on a nodak reciver.
I'm still fairly new to ak's and especially 74's, i though i read somewhere u want to make sure to get the proper feed ramp or something like that, maybe im wrong could someone clarify? also anything else u think i should look for besides the basic stuff (canted sight, 992r parts..)

also i was wondering if the serial number will be printed on the barrel

any info will help, thx

It's built on a Nodak so there is no such thing as "factory test fired". I would pass on it and get a SAR 2 factory built rifle.

There's no such thing as a "factory test fire" of a rifle built by someone. Granted, the kit that was once a rifle was fired many times, but .....

Serial number should be on the receiver somewhere, either on the left rear or in front of the magwell on the underside ( not familiar with the NDS receivers but these are the usual places for the serial number to be ).

Make sure it is put together with rivets and not screws. Make sure all the rivet heads do not move or are squished.

Disassemble the rifle ( recoil spring, bolt carrier, handguards ), hold the receiver tightly against your leg, grab the barrel and try to move it up and down. If there is any play between the barrel and the receiver, its a NO GO.

Finally, ask to test fire the gun.

when i say it was factory test fired i ment it was test fired in Bulgaria right after it was produced b4 it became a kit and imported into the us. it looks like it was never fired agin after that

heres the bolt face:

The bolt certainly looks pristine. Look down the receiver and barrel from a little behind the firearm to see if the receiver looks tweaked or canted or the barrel looks off line to the receiver. These are build flaws that are not normally functional issues but something you detect after you get it home.
If the bolt, carrier, trunnion and receiver cover match and the assembly looks solid and rivets flush it should be a good shooter. If the seller is a "builder" as you noted..,he should be able to demo the headspace for you with 'go' and 'no go' guages and point out the 922r parts .., eg. trigger group, gas piston, brake etc. Depending on price it may be a good buy. Test fire is a good thing if possible.

Test Fire. Would you buy a car without test driving it? unless you don't plan on shooting it, i wouldn't buy it without test firing.
