Scopes Calibrated for 7,62x54R
Hey everyone,
I'm looking to upgrade the scope on my PSL from the standard 4X to a 6 or 8X. Are there any other scopes out there that are already calibrated for the bullet drop of the 7,62x54R the same way the original LPS scope is? Kalinka's site has some that fit, but they're advertising them as one version working for .223, 7,62x39, etc. I know the drop of those rounds will vary greatly over distance... so I don't think there can be a one-size-fits-all scope that works for elevation/bullet drop. Are there any scopes calibrated for our round? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

http://www.p-a-distributing.com/ That web site has scopes calibrated for 7.62x54R The quality is supposed to be extremely good too. I emailed the owner who said that a new shipment of scopes are going to arrive soon and will include some types not currently listed on his site.

According to the scope manual at Kalinka, any POSP scope is good for both the big and little 7.62 rounds regarding bullet drop. You have to read the part that explains it: p2 upper right corner diagram.

Does anyone know if the copes Tantal sells are the same ones as Kalinka? Tantal isn't returning my emails, and the one auto-generated one with the price list shows the one I want is out of stock. So, same products? Specifically the 6x and 8x POSP scopes.

They are the same. Tantal is pretty busy, and he may take a week or so to get back to you depending on what your question is. East Wave Bestoptics off ebay is where my 6X posp came from, good seller with a fudgy sounding name.
As far as calibrated goes the only ones I've seen with ballistic dials are the stock IOR PSL and the PSO-1 4x scopes. The chinese ones have what appears to be a ballistic 54R dial as well but I have never used one so not sure.
If you figure out MOA or MIL drop using a calculator any scope with target turrets automatically becomes a "calibrated" scope give or take, that is what the kalinka manual is referring to (how many clicks = such and such drop for a 54R or 39 cartridge).
If you REALLY wanted a 54R calibrated one and don't like the factory scope (the IOR scopes are very very good albeit with low magnification) then you could get a mount and put a leupold or other scope with a custom made turret calibrated for your chosen 54R bullet. I have gone through a lot of the SVD/AK/PSL mounts and the only ones I'd recommend are made by VOMZ. I currently have a 1" VOMZ mount with an SVD clamp and it is the ONLY aftermarket SVD mount I've ever had that held tight and was straight with the barrel when zeroing. If you do go that route keep in mind you can only use a scope with a 40MM objective and you will have eye relief problems because of the short stock.

You've all been a great help. Last question, hopefully I won't have to start a new thread for it... can you still use the iron sights if you mount an 8X POSP on your PSL? A 6X?

The 8X scope objective lens sits damn near right on top of the rear site, so now you won't be able to. If you got one with an AK clamp it might sit high enough, but then it would be uncomfortable to use. If you want a scope other than the stock one that still allows you to use irons I would suggest a 6x24 POSP. It is the same profile as the 4X scopes but is 6X magnification instead. That may not sound like a lot but it is technically a 50% increase and you will notice it.
