The following is a list of reference dimensions for barrel and barrel components for those of you who want to use different components and different barrels on your builds.
All measurements were made as accurately as possible and should fall within + or - .001 .Some were made on stripped barrels and components and some were made on assembled rifles as I didnt want to dismantle them just for measurements. Some were unobtainable,( as in not enough area to measure )All were taken from my personal rifles and kits. I will add to and update this list as I can and intend to post it on as many gunboard BIY forums as possible. If you have suggestions for other dimensions related to the barrel group feel free to throw it out there. I've spent about 3 days on this and typed it all out on Word, and then copied and pasted it here and everything went to Shit. I had everything in nice straight columns and as soon as i pasted it to the reply box, everything went all Mumbo Jumbo.............. For the life of me i cannot figure out how to get everything back into straight columns and i'm tired of Muckin with it. So if anyone knows how, and is willin to straighten this up and make it look a little more professional, be my guest. All dimensions were taken by me off of bolts and carriers of my own personal guns or kits . The following explains the terminology of the abbreviations in the tables. Keep in mind these dimensions can vary a few thousandths either way due to tolerances from your parts. (1) BF DIA. This is the diameter of the bolt face recess where the cartridge head sits when the bolt is in battery (2) BS DIA. This is the diameter of the bolt stem (or shank if you like) that fits into the bolt carrier. (3) BC TUN. DIA This is the diameter of the hole (or tunnel ) in the carrier that the bolt stem fits into. (4) BC OAL This is the overall length of the bolt carrier and gas piston measured from the gas piston face to the rearmost tip of the bolt carrier (5) GPL This is the length of the gas piston itself from the face of the piston to the front of the carrier where it seats against. (does not include the threaded part) I thought it was strange that all the bolts are basically constructed the same (other than the bolt face dia. and bolt stem dia..) except the Saiga 308 which has had the stem turned to 2 diff. diameters approx. equal distances for the length of the stem. Hope this helps those who are planning on doing these conversions or mods Please bare in mind that these are reference only dimensions taken from my personal guns and kits. Your components will more than likely vary a few thousandths or more , but probly not enough to matter for most applications. Happy swappin.........................

motorhead,
someone mentioned this site yesterday and i have'nt had a chance to check it out but just did. I remember seeing it a long time ago and forgot all about it. I have no idea what they measured with ( micrometer, calipers ) but i compared the dimensions that correlated with my dimensions and noticed that theirs were pretty consistently about .002-.003 bigger dia. than mine. I kinda question the interference fits that they offered. A press fit of .001 is a very tight fit . They are quoting .003-.004 and .005-.006 press fits which i cannot even imagine any one pressing something that tight, especially since they are also crosspinned. If anyone wonders why their parts don't come right off in a press and gall really bad this would be a real good indicator. Appreciate you sharing this info , some good stuff in there.

Well, that info about the press fit dimensions really peaked my interest so i went out to the shop for some more measuring. All the dimensions on my list are actual barrel O.D. measurements. I did'nt check the I.D.'s of the mating parts, till just now. I checked 4 diff. barrels and components to see what the actual interference fit was . A Yugo AB2, Romy G, Saiga 308, and a Yugo Virgin Krink.
Checked barrel to trunnion, gas block and front sight fits. The heaviest press fit on all of them was .001 , some were .0005. Kinda really makes me wonder who checked those dimensions on the aa-ok.com figures and what they used to check them with. If you were to press a barrel into a trunnion, or gas block or FSB with a .005-.006 press fit you would NEVER get them off without ruining something . My 02 centavos

yeah, i noticed that too. .003-.004" is a really tight press fit. .001 you can usually hammer on.
