I heard the same thing about a 74 drum being sold for 3 grand, which I believe is nothing but internet legend.

besides the cheap 30 round hi-cap mag........the only other hi cap 74 mag that I have seen for sale is the soviet 45 round POLAYANA arsenal ones made for the RPK74.......but they are hard to come by, and expensive.....the only company I know that had them at one time was K-var. they also had a bulgarian 45 round mag, but they are sold out as well

http://www.k-var.com/product.asp?0=202&1=204&3=20

a guy on 47.nuts was asking 3500 for his 5.45 drum several months ago.
there's a pic somewhere on tantals site of a hi cap mag, looks like maybe a quad stack instead of the normal double stack type..gotta weigh a ton though!

Yeah, that thing is pretty cool, how much would one go for in the U.S though?

It would be nice if after the ban, a company would make a nice mag for the 74, like a drum etc.

not sure what they sell for but I would love to have a few for the collection and to sell. It would be nice if after the ban something like this was available for a reasonable price.

I believe that those hi-cap 74 mags were made for the RPK74, rather then for the 74 rifle........even though they will function in one.

Forgot where I got this; maybe on Valerie Shulin's Gun Club site?

I'd like the quad-stack, it it was dependable. The drum would be a pain to use on an AK, though not bad on the RPK where you don't use the forearm anyway. Hope I can get this to work.

I don't think there's any reason we won't see these in Sept. So long as they come from Romania or Bulgaria, or they're US made.

A Quad stack mag for a 47 would be cool too. Just as a collectors item.

I want to see a AK-74 drum. Other than that I think it's all hype and talk and nothing else.

its easy to see where they got the inspiration for the quad stack mag for the AK74/AN94.....the Italian 9mm "Spectre" submachinegun from around 20 years ago, was the first to field this feature. Having said that....MONGO WANT ONE!

With the machining capabilities of the people here and the trick tools, jigs, dies, and all, I sure wouldn't see a problem having some made here in the area of $450 or less. I know plenty of skilled metalworkers with mondo machinery, both stamping and CNC that could bang out a few of these. I looked at the print, and it's just a matter of having one to reverse engineer it, or a CD rom of the laser cutter codes, as it is all sheet metal and stampings of varying thickness with little hand fitting other than possibly the throat and receiver well fitment.
As far as the drums go, I would say the same. For that kind of money, hell, I'd pay for the stamping dies and have some made if I was sure of getting a grand each!

The top mag looks like some kind of pancake mag. The center mag look like a slab side.

The third mag is the interesting one. The Ruskies made a grand total of 1 of these mags. It is a 100 round mag. Note the protrusion on the right side on the pic at the end of the mag. This is a clip so it can be clipped to the barrel to stablize it.

This is the closest I've ever seen to a 5.45 drum mag... although it's never been clear to me whether this was a drum or just held a belt.
