Sorry fellas,
This is not Mesa AZ. There is no St Johns County in AZ. Also that snake does not look like a western dimondback, these are the most common in the area. Could be some other kind of a dimondback, but probably not in this area. Looks like this if Florida. |

"...THE PHOTOS are authentic and do, in fact, depict an eastern diamondback rattlesnake caught and killed in St. Augustine, Florida in September 2009. Most everything else in the text of this forwarded email is fictitious, however.
Eastern diamondbacks average around 3 to 6 feet in length, and the largest ever documented was 8 feet long. According to news accounts, the specimen pictured on the preceding pages measured a total of 7-feet-3-inches from head to tail — which is impressive, but just short of record size and way short of the 15 feet claimed. Confusing matters further, its apparent length and girth are exaggerated by forced perspective in the photos, in which the rattler is much closer to the camera than the person standing nearby. Could the snake have weighed 170 pounds, as claimed? Nope. Your average 6-foot-long adult eastern diamondback tops out at around 10 pounds. Even if this specimen measured 15 feet long (over twice the size it's supposed to be), it wouldn't weigh 170 pounds, or even 70. Someone down in Florida is blessed with a vivid imagination..."

If you've ever been walking in a brushy area, you won't soon forget, what a rattler sounds like. As you freeze and try to spot it to see how close it is to you, to see if you can escape. Honestly there's no need to kill it, it does its job of killng rodents. The only thing you will need to do is go back home and change your drawers, if this is a first time encounter. The posted picture is very questionable, it's has the proper body markings of a Diamond Back and I've seen some big ones in the S. Texas brush country.

That's correct, St. Augustine definitely is in St. Johns county. That does look like the diamond backs I've seen down here, I don't doubt one could reach 15'. I've personally only seen 6-7 footers, but it doesn't sound far fetched. What it does sound is scarier than hell!

It was a fake story that Yahoo actually ran for a few hours before pulling it.

I saw a 17 1/2 ft long King Cobra in Thailand and the sight of that thing stood the hairs up on the back of my neck. This Rattle snake (even if it is over reported in size) still packs a super mean punch. if it doesn't kill you it will eat your flesh like the Ebola virus where it invenimates. Truel an ugly scene!
