Went out to the range for some AK/Glock goodness... met a shooter packing a Bushmaster M4. We traded for a few rounds: I liked the rifle- felt good and the recoil was similar to my 74; he liked my rifle and said that he had noticed some AKs when he shot 3 gun. I think I'll keep my AK

There's nothing wrong with a little complexity. The 1911 has a rather complicated manual of arms compared to modern designs like the beretta and sig

I enjoy shooting my AR, though not as much as my AK. It does take a little more to clean them, but it's not bad once you are familiar with it.

I took out one of my "M-4" this weekend and I must say for all out speed and accuracy on target I can run my AR faster & better with less effort .... AK feel like I'm bending them to my will.
I still can run an AK fast and on target enough to count.

Cleaning isn't that bad at all. In fact I think an AK is a bigger pain in the ass.
Pull the take-down pin and open the rifle, everything comes out in one pull of the charging handle. Clean the bolt, spray down the inside of the upper, check for shit in your extractor then stick it all back in after a quick wipe down with lube. |

On my AK I just give the bolt face a quick scrub then wipe it down with CLP. On my AR the bolt takes some elbow grease to get all the shit off it. Now if you aren't shooting much on each outing then it's a lot easier to clean. |

I love my M4gery. Hell, its in the back seat right now
I think both designs have their advantages, when it comes to cleaning. I find a "quick cleaning" to be easier with the AR platform. As for a "thorough cleaning" well, I don't do that very often lol my M4 runs just fine nice and dirty. In fact, both rifles have served as my patrol rifle, both have had countless rounds through them, both have been rode hard an put up wet, neither has ever been pampered, and neither one has ever jammed ONCE. The only real difference between them is I sold the SAR1

What area of cleaning is giving you problems on the AR. Someone here can likely help you out to resolve the issues you are having.

I grew up shooting muzzleloaders & shooting black powder so either type of weapon is a snap to clean in my book.... Like falling off a log in fact.

Since I run corrosive surplus ammo in them... yes. The ARs I let sit as as long as I clean them every 1000 rounds or so they don't have a problem.

You spend too long on it. It takes me 5 minutes to do all the cleaning my AK needs. It's not spotless, but it doesn't need to be (seriously, too many people overclean their guns). Although, my Manticore flash hider seems to really not take well to corrosive ammo, it gets rust in it all the time, in the threads.

I used to shoot with my buddy who has a RRA AR. Always thought it felt like a paintball gun, the way its set up and the recoil. Just IMO

I have only handled M4 styled ARs at gun shows and they feel super light. I'd love to shoot one sometime.
Only gun I have in 5.56x45 is my SL8-1/G36 conversion. The original match "heavy" barrel was shortened but only turned down after the gas block which is covered by the hand guard so it is front heavy. The bipod doesn't help in that regard either. It uses a short stroke gas piston system so cleaning is almost as easy as the AK.

I might be the only person who thinks that gun ISNT ergonomic. Even with that telescopic stock it doesn't fit my shoulder well. Maybe a different stock would help.
Yes they do shoot nice though, almost no muzzle rise.

I find every part of the AR ergonomic, although I prefer fixed stocks to telescoping stocks. I don't like telescoping stocks.
