The monkeys that handled my pristine Tula 1954 SKS put some small scratches on the finish on the left side, played with the take down cover enough to cut into the finish and worked the action enough to take the finish off of the follower. Should I bother to see if I can fix this blasphemy or should I just classify the rifle as a shooter? If it can be corrected I would love to know how...
I normally don't have pristine safe queens, but the historical value and that this is the ONLY imported rifle I have seen EVER in right off the factory floor condition is why I bought it.

I would make them pay to fix whatever it is they fucked up in the first place. Go to a different gunsmith and bill them for.the total.

It was stolen and when the LEOs recovered it the shitbag that took it said that it was a "Machine gun" when he took it, so it got bumped up to the alphabet boys who fingerfucked it for WAAAYYY longer than they needed too. They also took some other pieces I have and "Inspected" them. I saw it when they recovered it and it was still pristine when it got handed over.
Not the only piece that I've been getting dragged through the mud over either.

The average cop doesn't know the difference between an AK and a SKS. Even though most carry AR/M16, they can't identify characteristics of FA or SA rifles.......

Once you ship it off for work you're at the mercy of who's working on it. Your word against theirs. You're screwed. You can try OP, method of recovering your loss, just save yourself the time and hassle. Sorry!

What I'm saying is the offender that stole it in the first place claimed he knew it was a machine gun when he started talking to the police and he said other guns he never stole or saw were also converted. It wasn't entirely LEOs fault, but the way they handled my property that anyone could tell hadn't been disassembled since 1954 is what pissed me off.

I know a couple of AWESOME gunsmiths in my area that can probably get it taken care of in a day or two and send them the bill.

Whats sad is the criminal that stole it handled it with more care than the ___ agency that "Inspected" it.

Seems to me you should be thankful you got it back. Period.
I dont see any chance that any LEA is going to foot the bill for putting an SKS back to pristine either.

Unfortuante as it is LEA are not required to handle a firearm that is part of an investigation in any particular fashion by law or department polices regardless of type, value, etc. They will not pay and a lawyer would be a waste of your time unless you think there is a case for them inspecting non stolen guns without just cause.
I have heard stories of collections being seized for inspection and getting markers, chalk, and even electropenciling and carried like firewood into a vehicle. Glad you got it back...far too often recoverd firearms are melted down because the owner could not be found. Or owner didnt have serials number to report it stolen. |

You're not going to get any type damages, just get over it and move on. It's still a damn good weapon. Slighty obsesssive compulsive aren't we?
Maybe shooting at some cop cars when they drive by will make you feel better, just don't try to hit the cops. You don't have enough posts here to be getting on anyones case here. Jeez! JT |

I just found out one of the thiefs is claiming a Norinco SKS I also had stolen from me is his "Daddies bring back" From Viet Nam. Hard to pull that one with CAI on the side, isn't it?

Sorry, I apologize. My main point is, you're not going to get any resolution on your problem. I have a mint Norinco SKS purchased back in early 90's, I wouldn't be happy either, if I was in your shoes. Is the wood stock scratched or the barrel/receiver areas? Wood is easier to fix than metal in most cases. Sorry for coming off as an asshole.

It's only on the dust cover on the back. I may have a quality and easy fix with some refinishing markers that my dad has used on Colt SAAs before.

My Saiga 308 looks like one of our esteemed federal agents went deer hunting with it the 2 years they had it. Odd because it was also unfired. I guess they got the wrong impression of what I was planning when I was going to "Convert" it. They made sure to fire dirty ammo through it and my WASR and leave them like that. Real pals these public servants are...

Seriously, this is nuts. They went way beyond test firing it, they zeroed the POSP scope I had on it to 400 meters, the hammer looks like it came out of a well worn kit, all the metal on metal contact has been thouroughly broken in. I will post pictures since I have hands on now.

They even went so far as to REMOVE all the oil, cosmo and other fluids that were supposed to protect it. The crown has rust, this is fucked up. It also looks like they wacked it against a tree.
