Klimovsk ammo?
Has anyone heard of Klimovsk ammo from Russia? AIM is selling this ammo at a pretty good price. I was wondering if anyone has had some experience with this stuff. Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant(KSAP) 123gr. bi-metal jacket with lacquer case, new production and non-corrosive. It's cheaper than WOLF.
|
I wounder if this is the same stuff selling at Ammoman.com for nearly the same price. I just wish I had bought more brownbear for these prices.
|
First heard about them today and wouldn't mind trying some. If they could best the ol' reliable, Brown Bear, I'd be impressed. The ultra simple boxes are neat and it's good to see more lacquer coated options out there.

Here's the company website.
http://www.kspz.ru/ In 7.62x39 they make both 8 gram and 9 gram bullets. I would stay with FMJ bullets and not hollow points. http://www.kspz.ru/production/cartridges/hunting/ 8 gram bullets http://www.kspz.ru/production/cartridges/hunting/oxo1/ 9 gram bullets http://www.kspz.ru/production/cartridges/hunting/oxo2/ They say the 9 gram bullet load produces higher chamber pressure. I wonder if the same powder charge is used in both loads. They are both rated at the military standard of 15 cm groups at 100 meters. |
Wow!
I haven't seen this Stuff in Years ! It was first available ( as far as I know ) back in 2003. It was sold at a Gunshow here in Iowa. I pick up 2 cases for $85 each. It was sold 960 rounds to a Case. Possibly still have a couple boxes around. |

So is it safe to say you thought it was good ammo? |

http://www.ak-47.us/AK47_Ammo-002.php It looks like the English web pages are no longer on their website but this is from a Google catch of part of them. Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant (CTJSC “KSAP”) is an enterprise legendary in every respect. It is here that world-famous cartridges for a wide variety of pistol systems and for Kalashnikov submachine guns are produced. In 2001, closed-type joint stock company (ZAO) “Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant” was founded on the base of JSC (OAO) “Klimovsk Stamping Plant”. The enterprise owners came to rescue the plant while investing into the country’s defense power, into production of ammunition and weapons necessary for national security of Russia, even though those efforts were not going to be immediately repaid. As of today, CTJSC “KSAP” has mastered output of new kinds of products, both for military and civilian use. The principal customers of the plant are the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defense of Russia, sports institutions and hunting societies; some of the items are manufactured for export. The enterprise has restored and expanded the range of products that were manufactured for many years. Along with submachine gun and pistol cartridges of 7.62 mm and 9 mm caliber, cartridges for underwater shooting weapons, bullets for industrial, sport, hunting, pneumatic guns are produced. The Klimovsk plant is the only one in Russia producing small-caliber cartridges for hunting and sports shooting weapons, industrial cartridge-operated guns, and there are just four similar plants in the world. Large-scale works are underway for revival of the famous “Module”. A renewed “Module” will be a state-of-the-art production line with significantly expanded product range. A modernized metal-working site equipped with up-to-date CNC processing centers has been organized on the base of the tool shop. The plant has its own research and development center outfitted with the newest computer equipment. One of the center’s strategic tasks is to implement systems of automated control over enterprise resources and product manufacturing cycles. The personnel use in their work the PRO/ENGINEER program enabling end-to-end parallel designing and manufacture preparation. Considerable funds have been expended on young designers’ training. The efficiency of new approaches made it possible for the plant to develop its own multi-functional pistol “Horhe” in mere six months. The pistol has been highly praised by the members of special squads “Alpha”, “Vityaz’”, and “Vympel”; the rubber-bullet firing “Jorge” version is carried on their missions by law enforcement personnel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The weapon is indispensable when action takes place in public transport or elsewhere with many civilians around. Weapons and ammunition shooting capacity under different conditions and temperature regimes, and their ballistic characteristics are studied at a control test station (CTS). The station has been approved as compliant with the standards of the Permanent International Commission for Firearms Testing (CIP). Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant remains a township-forming enterprise. It carries on to provide town-dwellers with heat and electric power. It is planned to have state-of-the-art German-made electrical generating equipment installed in the plant’s boiler house. The plant also keeps patronage control over the war memorial grave in Teterinki village. The fighting line would cross the village twice: in 1812 and 1941. First, the plant installed a Commemorative Plate, and in 2006 – a Veneration Cross. As a result of memorial creation activities, the village of Teterinki has undergone magnificent changes. That same year 2006, the village won the first prize as a village best redeveloped for living in Podolsky district. The plant runs its own shooting club, “7.62 × 39”. The club team has won Russia’s all-around title in practical shooting from smooth-bore rifles in “Standard-pump-action” category. After a long recess, the enterprise resumed issuing its official newspaper “Zavodskaya pravda”, which covers activities of the plant and township affairs and has a free distribution in Klimovsk. The paper, coming out in 15 thousand copies, is popular with the area population. On the powerful upswing of 2006 the plant met its 70th anniversary. Today, CTJSC “KSAP” has become a leading Russia’s enterprise and the only one in the metropolitan area to produce ammunition and weapons of the highest quality and reliability, looking into its future with confidence. On June 18, 2008, the plant was named after the USSR KGB chairman Yuri V. Andropov. |
Thanks for all the good research.

Yes, It was very good Ammo, when I was out at the Range. Consistant & Reliable, not really Dirty. Never had any Problems at all. |
AIM is selling it in a thousand rnd. case. I'm assuming it's not sealed in any way. Even if it isn't, at that price i'd be willing to invest in some more ammo cans and strore it that way. It's not too much more in price compared to the Yugo corrosive mil surplus I bought. Think I'll get some just to see what it does.

I remember this ammo from back in the late 90's recognize that unique symbol in the middle of the box.
http://www.aimsurplus.com/eos/images...239fmj123b.jpg It came in those nice sealed lacquered paper 120rd battle packs...I can still remember the smell after opening up those battle packs. Was always excellent ammo back then.... |
Got 1k round box from Ammoman yesterday. Shipped quick, packed well but not in a sealed can. Box has all the ammo info printed on the side so I got a weird look from the UPS guy. :) Looks just like the pic above, clean and well manufactured. Lacquer is not "gloppy". Seems high quality. My M10 is singing the "feed me" song, but our annual Southwest Desert sleet-storm and work will be keeping me from the range for a few days....

Anybody able to say what the bullet type is? Pictures would be even better since google has failed me. I just want to know if it's a longer boat tailed bullet like golden tiger or the shorter, flat based bullet that comes with most russian ammo nowdays.
