Howdy everyone,

I'm slowly but surely building an AK and I have a few questions.

1) I really like the Galil bolt carrier/gas piston and how it sticks up a bit so you can manipulate it easily with the left hand. Will this fit on an AK?

2) I don't really like the sights on the AK.
a) Can I add a Krinkov receiver cover or will the existing rear sight get in the way? Or the Galil receiver cover, will it work?
b) How well does the Mojo sight work? It just replaces the existing rear sight, right?
c) I see that ACE had a replacement for the rear sight that was part M16 peep sight and part scope mount. http://www.riflestocks.com/ak.html Anyone have any experiance with this?

Thanks!

1) Not sure. There are a lot of differences betwen a Galil and an AK. Someone else will have to answer that one.
2) You and most other people.
a)I don't think think the Krink or Galil cover will work.
b) No peep (aperture) sight is going to work that far from your eye. It has to be near, or you don't get the effect.
c) The ACE sight has the same problem, because of the placement.

If you have/can get a tight receiver cover, you could try mounting a peep on it, padding it up to the height required to get to the line of sight. Or you could mount a Williams receiver peep sight on the receiver, spacing it out far enough to miss the receiver cover. Or you could learn to use the sight that's on it. It works perfectly well (till you get older, at least) out to about 200 yds, and that's what the AK was intended for. If you want an accurate rifle, get a Mosin.
