My Coldsteel based Yugo is just about finished. I worked two evenings on it, though that doesn't count the cleaning and prep work. All seems to function correctly, though I have to clean it up a little inside. I have some questions about the mag fit. It seems that when the mag is inn, the bolt binds when you try to close it. The mag is difficult to put in when the bolt is closed. This is not a Yugo mag, but I don'y think that should matter. I believe that the selector side lower rail is binding the mag and pushing it over to the extractor side a little. The mag seems to get tighter when I try to seat it the whole way in and the rail is the only thing that touches the mag. Does the lower bend in the selector side rail (Tapco rail) function as guide for the mag?
Things to do yet:
Cold Blue..Sling swivel installation..headspace..And get the mag to fit a little easier.
All in all...on substantial gun!!!!!

Hey there pardner...nice build.

The bend in the RH lower rail is to help stop slop in magazine fit. It should just rub gently against the side of the magazine. If not cut/trimmed correctly, it will either allow the mag to be a little sloppy (side to side) or the side of the magazine will bind against it causing the magazine to jam.

I use a .003" to .005" feeler gauge to check the clearance from the top of the receiver with the magazine inserted. If I can insert the feeler gauge snuggly between the side of the magazine and the bend on the rail, I consider it okay.

The lower rail definately needs trimmed on mine. It is scraping and gouging the mag.

I know you said you didn't think it was a yugo mag....But keep in mind if
it IS a empty Yugo mag- it will hold the bolt open

With the mag well dimples in the receiver the right side rail mag guide is redudant and not needed. you can cut it off with a Dremel cutting wheel and it might correct your flaw. Just a suggestion.

1. check what toten kopf said, check it against 3-4 different types of mags, plastic, steel, etc.

2. sounds like the ejecter needs trimmed. try it without the bolt, just the carrier.

3. verify mag is not too tight against the selector stop.

Good to hear you got it running right. Looks good too! Did you use a spot welder on those lower rails?

Thanks. I used a 220v HF spot welder. It worked great, especially with the heavier receiver.
