My Global Trades tantal kit has a top cover that is smooth like the old milled AKs, no reinforcing ribs. All the #'s do match. I find that strange as it was built in the early 1990's.
Anyone else's like that?

I got a 1993 dated Tantal from Bob at Akron Armory and it has the smooth top cover and the handguard/gastube retainer has a lever type latch. Not the slotted screw like most of the pics of the kits show.

The smooth covers are from past production wz.60 rifles. There is still a lot of past production parts from the wz.60 in stock at various factory warehouses.
Like I had said on another forum... the smooth covers were either mixed in with the designated AKM type and/or they could have wanted to use up some of their past production stock.
I'm curious as to why they did this as well, I shall ask my friend at the Factory.
