Did he ever get around to adding trigger guard riveting to that jig?

Negative. I dont think the fixture would help with the trigger guard rivets anyway...

nice looking kit - are you going to wait until the sunset to leave the stock functional, or weld in place?

Also, where are ya'll getting these nice kits, and for how much? I have a Hesse AK receiver I got back in 1999 and would like to assemble it.....

For the trigger guard rivets, Vis (on the other AK board) came up with this.

http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data/500/20380PA230021-med.jpg

He said that he used a 6 ton bottle jack to press all 4 rivets at the same time. The anvil is notched to clear the center support. The trigger guard rivets would be WAY easier on a bent metal build as they could be done before the rails and center support were installed. The dimples would be made with a ball end mill of the appropriate size, probably 7/32", 1/4" or 9/32" depending on your rivets. An appropriate application of WECSOG adhesive strip (electrician or duct tape) keeps everything in place.

He has been too busy to provide a measured drawing, but you already have a template if you have a commercial receiver. If you are building with a bent metal blank, just use that template.

Here's a link to the Ace Arms template if you need one:

http://www.acearms.com/downloads/AK_Template_Ace.pdf

I would suggest printing it on a laser printer, without "fit to page" settings. The overall length should be right at 10.25"

Would you know where I could get a template for your trigger guard riveting tool.

This is the way I have been doing mine. It does a good job.
But I think I'm going to build something more solid similar to Vis's

Plinker's jig does do a excellent job on trunnion rivets though.

I've done 4 receivers with this jig and every rivet has come out perfect.

I just finished up my first reciever using plinkers jig. His jigs make the rivets look factory fresh without having to touch-up anything. It takes alittle time to set up, but the finished product is worth it. Thumbs Up to Plinker.

How do you hold the rivets inside the trunion while upsetting them?

Max, I would sure like to see your ACE Arms build posted here. Im sure it would be a pain but if you posted it as its own thread it would serve to answer lots of questions that you and I both know are coming. :small_gri -Vulcan762 (FLC)

The rivets are simply set in place from the outside. The head is held in place using one of the small 1/4" bucks that you see in the picture.

Post #17 on this thread shows the jig in action. The spacers under the reciever have recessions for different size rivet heads. Once it is set up and bolted down nothing on the jig will move. Like I said, it takes alittle time to set up, but the finished product is well worth the time.
