I'm researching info to build up my first AK47, there are so many different receivers to choose from so what do people recommend. I don't mind drilling, bending, welding etc, whatever it takes to produce a rifle I can be proud of that I put together. I'm going to stay with the 7.62mm calibre and keep the rifle as original to the design as possible. This is my first hands-on experience with the AK so any info to point me in the right direction will be appreciated.

Easy and Cheap, call Centerfire. get a group buy amd63(110.00),call tapco get
a single hook compliance set with hts and gas piston(60.00).Call K-var get a hesse receiver (40.00) Get a u.s. follower and floor plate. You Now have
more u.s. parts than you need. And are set to build a rifle that looks just like it did when it was still in Hungary. 210.00 invested.

Do you want to start with a finished receiver or do you want to build one?

If you really want to build one, Start with a bentmetal blank from Ace or IBE.

There is also a new, so called 80% receiver, on ebay that looks promising. It's a laser cut flat, that you can fold by hand and weld together.

Stay away from the stamped flats, They're impossible to bend without an expensive die

I got one of the laser cut flats from the guy on Ebay and it gave me an idea. Wondering if anyone else has thoughts on this. These flats are not completely finished like the Tapco flats. No hole for the PG, selector hole only drilled on 1 side, no magwell dimples, various other holes not drilled to correct sizes, etc. What about taking a Tapco flat which looks to have all it's proper holes & dimples and using a thin dremel cutoff wheel (or a laser cutter if you happen to have one), cut halfway through the blank like the Ebay guy does to make it easy to fold. Weld up the bends and you're done Other than installing the rails. Any opinions from the experts on this ?

Lets say these flats can be bent using this method, then how do you then fold the top rails? The thought of being able to bend one of these flats without tearing it up is cool, but how do you handle the bends for the top rails and do a neat job? Will making cuts for the top rail bends work also?

The idea is as old as the flats themselves.
I have read numerous posts about people attempting this method, but I've yet to hear of a successful result.

The only other supplier selling Hesse that I know of is joeken and they have a POOR reputation to say the least.
I will likely wait for the new Global receivers.
Hopefully they will be as good as they look.
