i want to know which receivers you all prefer. ive heard tremendous criticizm of hesse/vulcan receivers. Ive got the money and just want to know if i should buy the OOW or Hesse/Vulcan receiver. Ive heard more good things about the OOW but its not finished or drilled. The hesse for now sounds like its quality wouldnt be as good as the OOW but im open to all opinions but its finished and the holes are already drilled. I will most likely build a 223 or 545 krink kit on it with side folder if that helps anything. It would be even better if somebody could do a poll for me on this because i dont know how to do that.i think im kinda leaning towards the vulcan right now but i want to know the opinion of the masses before i do anything since i have no experiance with any of these receivers
THANKS ALOT,
Jeremy

I have AK's built on ALL of the following receivers:

Krinks, Vulcan (Hesse), OOW (all of these are 5.45's)

I really think the OOW is the best of the 3 current makers.

if you are going to build a 5.45 or 5.56, then go with the OOW 5.45 receiver, you won't need to modify the ejection rail or the mag well.

I wouldn't even consider putting money in the pockets of a "company" like hesse/vulcan that makes garbage, and rips people off by selling so called "firearms" to unsupecting gun owners....or to anyone that carries their 'product".

I'v built 6 ak's on hesse/vulcan. the 1st Hesse went without a single hitch that could be traced to the receiver. the last 5 were built on vulcan, and the dimentions HAVE slightly changed, though really not too bad. The front trunnion holes are off spec. there are 2 fixes; elongate the holes toward the front about 1/16th inch, or weld them shut and redrill the front holes. Redrill with front of trunn flush with front of receiver. Then build kit as normal. If you don't do this, mags won't fit and will cause all sorts of other problems in build. Even with this problem, I'd build on Vulcan rather than OOW; they have more problems!

Instead of moving/elongating the front trunniun rivet holes 1/16 inch forward, can't one just trim the front the same amount? Would this not have the same effect? Unless the distance between the magazine well and the front trunniun is the problem! I don't know, but I'm planning a build and I already have the Vulcan receiver and just researching all the build posts here! I will be building it with a Romanian from Interordnance.

Wait a month or two for the Global receivers (www.globaltrades.com)

Are the Global receivers Bulgarian or Hungarian?

The front trunnion will cause fit problems if too far into the receiver. On the builds I have done on Vulcan receivers, the front trunnion is too far into the receiver. Trimming the front of the rec. will NOT cure the problem. Welding up the rivit holes and redrilling 1/16 inch (approx) forward, will cure the problem. In all truthfulness, the major problem with Vulcan is'nt their AK47 receiver, it's their sole distributor(JoeKen) They are such a major MIGRAIN to work with, after buying 6 receivers from them I have finally seen the light, and will never order from them again.

OJF, THere are others that sell vulcan receivers besides joeken. I ordered some from dsspro (his username at gunsnet), and though they cost a little more than buying through joeken, he actually has them in stock and the receivers were sent and arrived quickly. I have used and am using the hesse/vulcan receivers for my builds so far. I am slowly working on doing one from a bent metal blank and once completed I will be happy that another goal will be accomplished.
