AK's are just UGLY!

Call it what you want,Tell me its reliable,tell me you love yours, I dont care.
I have a couple and a couple more coming.I still think they are stinkin UGLY
I look at the lines on My Cetme,My G-1,My Imbel/Isy wantabe, even my Indian A-1,then at my AK's.
( all rifles with wood.) And My AK's arent as pretty.It just doesnt seem proper to put the ugly things in the same safe as the other rifles.
DAMN,Now this site comes on line, I guess I need to buy another safe.

Lost has chosen his name well; he thinks he's on a board where his statements have some meaning. He apparently doesn't know that H&K is German (and CETME is spanish) for AK, and the whole FAL series is what happens when people who don't understand a concept (the assault rifle) try to "improve" it. MTK took the idea embodied in the StG-44 and redesigned it for Russian manufacturing and Russian conscripts.

For the people who think all Russian women have hairy arm-pits, it's obvious that you need to leave the 1950's behind--the Cold War is over, we won, and we don't have to repeat the anti-Communist propaganda.

That being said, just call the AK the biker-chick of firearms. She may not be the prettiest on the bench, but she's great in the mud.

Good engineering is simple engineering..... and if you really appreciate good engineering..... and can understand how very hard that it is to do, then you would not but call the AK beautiful.

Yes, in some aspects they might be "ugly". I for one do not think that the folding stock versions..especially the single wire type side folders, are "good" looking compared to a true real wood Ak-47 or even a beautiful full stocked Arsenal AK classic. The rifle just flows. If you take off the wood/plastic full stock it becomes visually unbalanced and does not work as well for me. That is not saying WHEN the AWB goes away that I won't have a couple with folding stocks!

Really I admit I like the looks of the Krinks too. I just dnt care for the looks of the "Standard" A.K. rifle.
I think its a learned liking. I didnt care for the looks of the wood L1A1's
when I saw the first ones at a gunshow.

Ak's may be ugly, but what is uglier, especially if you have to use it, is that
"forward assist" do hickey on that "other rifle". ;)

An AK is made to shoot and shoot and shoot and shoot and shoot and get dragged thru the mud, blood, beer and guts, and more mud, and shoot some more. IMHO, the AK will work long after any other rifle jams up and quits. I'm not sure if they can produce quite the accuracy of some of the other rifles in the world today, but I don't think that any can match it's reliability.

I even think the AMD's are nice. They have a businesslike look. When you see an AK, you know the owner means business. I can't stomach many of the "Sapce Guns" like an AR or SL8. If it looks like a phaser, it better damn well shoot death rays. hehe
