View Thread: PSL Trunion vs. Yugo RPK

I would like to know how close a Romanian PSL trunion is to a YUGO RPK trunnion.

I made an earlier post that showed a YUGO RPK parts kit mated to a PSL reciever that was for sale on gunbroker.

I was wondering if I could fit a YUGO RPK trunion to a PSL reciever as I am consdiering building a PSL receiver Based AK but don't know were to get a PSL reciever or even a PSL parts kit.

The PSL has a longer bolt. The receiver is 3/4 inch longer. The hammer and trigger are farther back. The hammer won't meet the Yugo firing pin / bolt properly.

PSL parts kits are $300 at TGI (Tennessee Gun Internatl) right now (through the AKFORUM) and they sell both the Romy style receiver and the straight cut rear receiver that accepts standard AKM furniture and made by Nodak Spud.

I planned on using a PSL reciever, bolt and carrier and a Yugo RPK Trunion but since

Ak blue mentioned a good source for parts kits and recievers I may go that route, I want to build an AKM sized rifle in 7.62x54R though I had planned on using a Yugo rear trunion and forend excetera....and a Mosin nagant barrel so I could place the gas block in the standard location for the AKM. I believe the same Idea has been done by thompson machine but he used the PSL trunion the idea was to try not to obtain a psl parts kit, but its probably the easier route to take anyway rather than trying to find the individual parts. I had just found a PSL reciever with no trunion and was trying to find an inexspensive way to use it.

I have thought about converting a PSL to AK configuration for a good while too. The straight cut receiver by NDS is a good start. I'm in for one and strating to think over the build now. Evidetly a standard gas system can be used but I'm not sure on port size etc. I'll have to work it out as I go for barrel component placement and milling the contours/diameters etc..
TGI is planning to make the rifles soon. Here is one of their pics.
