Hello, this is a thread about Ak mags, which do you prefere/own? I use tapco's i havnt had a problem with htem on boththe sks or Ak, plus its the only one that can fit into my rifle do too the reciever lol

Tapcos are ok for fit, but I've had them misfeed numerous times (especially when bump-firing, which I'll never do again with one). Take one apart and compare it to a standard com-bloc steel one and you'll see the difference. So far I've had the best experience with the metal ones. Not much difference in those that I can tell other than the Yugo BHOs. Some (like the Chinese ones) look better than others.

What if the Tapco springs were replaced with real AK mag springs?

awhile ago the tapco ak got mixed up with the tapco ar mag springs did you try replacing them? i hvae bump fired with mine and it feeds flawlessly no matter what

I like the bulgy waffles best, hands down, but any of the comblock steel mags are good and I have plenty of those also.

I haven't yet seen an American made AK mag I'd waste a dime on and the Korean mags have not held up too well from what I hear, so I haven't bought any of those either.

The magazine to get is a "Playboy magazine",

And a 1 year subscription to Playboy magazine.

AND don't get just one "magazine", that's why I say get a 1 year subscription... 12 mags is a good battle carry too. Articles are GREAT!

With the advent of the internet is there really a need for a subscription?

Bulgy Waffles
Combloc Steel

The only US made mags that might be worth it are the US Palm/Tangodown polymers. Considering they cost as much as the Bulgy waffles, I wouldn't buy them. Drop down the price to that of P-Mags, and then I might consider them.

I like the Eastern European and Chinese.

Combloc steel. All I have and they've never learned to malfunction. Not even once. Cleaned the cosmoline out with mineral spirits, rubbed out a few rust spots, painted a couple just to see if I like 'em lookin pretty. GI Joe green. They didn't mind and neither did I. The others are still kinda blued and I guess they'll stay that way. Cut one down to 10 rounds, really made a difference in where the rifle will fit in a vehicle. Heh.

I really like the Bulgarian Poly mags but I picked up a few Yugoslavian 30 round steel mags and I have to say these are sweet. Load well, tough as nails, and the bolt stays open after your last shot. Hands down the best mag I have had.... going to buy another 4.

There are differences between bulgy waffle mags and the bulgy polymer mags--with or without the 'bullets'.
The former are outstanding, the latter are nothing but range mags IMO.

That said, I don't really get the concept of a range mag. You can either trust your life to the mag, or you cannot.

Playboy was a right of passage for many....Some of us still appreciate having the field manuals around.

The other mags...I've only combloc and no experience with the after market stuff.

Hence my advice is for people to use their Crapco mags for target practice. Considering all the cool tactical colors they come in, they should blend in nicely with their surroundings and actually serve a useful purpose.

Ah I have the bullet bulgy mags that might be why I wasn't impressed with them actually found my tapco mag the gun came with to be easier to load and attach to the rifle. Still say the yugo is amazing quality for a steel mag you could probably run these bad boys over with a tank and still shoot out of them.

Steel don't break.

'nuff said.

I like the soviet orange bakelites, too. They're gettin' damn expensive these days, though.

The slabsides were made for commercial sales in the US, the Mil Spec ones are the "Waffle" mags, look for the Circle 10.
