Rotting deer carcasses in Pa. yard raise stink

KITTANNING, Pa. - Hundreds of rotting deer carcasses in a southwestern Pennsylvania yard are causing a stink among the neighbors.

Randy Good of North Buffalo Township has a contract with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to remove the animal carcasses from roads in five counties.

Good says he has been picking up 50 to 100 carcasses a day. To cope with demand, he has been dumping a few hundred at a time in his yard. He says weekend landfill closures and a broken truck have worsened the backlog.

Neighbors a half-mile away say they have resorted to burning candles in their homes to mask the stench.

Good says he has gotten a trash container that will help, but it will take a week or two to remove them all.

When I was in my early 20's there was a place owned by the county we would hang out at and party,drive our 4x4's up and down the hills and raise hell.One summer day we were all hanging out and it was very still and quiet.My buddy said can you hear that noise?At first I could not hear it but after he described it to me I could hear very faintly.We walked up this new embankment and the noise got louder and louder.Then the smell hit us.The county had dug a hole and was dumping road kill into it.This was a big hole,one that if you fell into you would need help getting out.The noise we heard was millions,maybe billions of maggots eating the rotten flesh of road kill.I have never heard that sound before or since and hope I never do again.It still creeps me out thinking about it.Now the county just lets the roadkill lay in the road until the other animals eat it up,td
