Former SS member, 90, charged over Nazi massacre

BERLIN - – German prosecutors on Tuesday charged a 90-year-old former SS soldier with 58 counts of murder for the killing of Jewish forced labourers in the final weeks of World War II.

With Allied forces fast overrunning Germany, the man, named in media reports as Adolf Storms, was accused of hatching a plot on March 28, 1945 with other SS and members of the Hitler Youth, to slaughter Jewish prisoners.

The next day, the accused and other SS took at least 57 labourers in several groups into woods near the small town of Deutsch Schuetzen in Hitler's native Austria near the present-day border with Hungary, prosecutors alleged.

There the Jews, who were Hungarians, were stripped of their valuables before being made to kneel down in a ditch. Storms and his accomplices then dispatched them with bullets from behind, prosecutors said in a statement.

The same day or the day after, he gunned down a 58th labourer in nearby Jabing who was too exhausted to continue a forced march of around 100 others, shot in the same "cowardly" manner in the back, prosecutors said.

The 90-year-old, a former member of the fifth SS Tank Division "Viking", now lives in the west German industrial city of Duisburg near Cologne. In December, police raided his residence, seizing documents.

At the time of the massacre, the Nazis were desperately evacuating concentration camps, forcing emaciated prisoners on exhausting marches and killing those too weak to carry on.

Just a month later, with the Third Reich in ruins, Hitler shot himself in his bunker as the Red Army swept into Berlin, and the war in Europe, and the Holocaust, were over.

I was watching WWII in HD last night. They showed a bunch of Germans who surrendered in North Africa. A single guy was tasked with guarding them,and he killed them all,because he was a jew and his parents were killed by the nazis.I wonder if they'll come after him?

Just wondering..... How is this cowardly? I think if it were inevitable to meet my death at the hands of another, this way would be very high on the list of my prefered methods of dispatch.

Hanging? No thanks. Firing squad? Not so much. Beheading? I'll pass. Of all the crappy ways to go, a round to the back of the head is pretty humane.

SS 'Wiking' were very motivated volunteers for the war against Bolshevism. Their insignia was a swastika with curved arms. This man should be living on a nice pension, treated with the respect due a war hero.

I'd like to see exactly what you are refering to, got a reference I can look up?

One book "Other Losses" talks about it, but since
we handed half the country over to Stalin, he continued
the "punishment" not to mention 60 million of his own.

Our Commisars/Allies should have never been given
the chance. We should have went into Russia like Patton

One of the first johnny foreigner divisions raised..possibly the best also. Why do they never say which Regt. these old fuckers are from? Maybe they don't know, maybe they have forgotten maybe the reporters just don't listen...the latter would seem most likely.

Germania, Norland maybe Westland even who knows, if he was using the title 'Wiking' and none of the others then he most likely would have been on Divisional Staff or some other sub-unit. Maybe he'd tranferred out when the crime took place?

December '44 the were engaged around Stuhlwissenburg west of Budapest.

The Div. or what was left of it surrendered in Czechoslovakia in May 1945.





They should just carve a rounded swastika (only used on vehicles by the way) on his forehead with a big knife and let him go.
