A post below took me to Pravda's english web site.
Found the following story there: http://english.pravda.ru/
The comparrison is made between the Berlin Wall and the border between the US and Mexico, citing the suspected numbers of people lost attempting to cross both borders (frontiers). They site 233 at the Berlin Wall and over 50k at the US/Mexican border.
Assuming their numbers to be correct (a BIG assumption) they fail to recognise that the Berlin Wall was much smaller and meant to KEEP PEOPLE IN, where as the US/Mexican border is much longer and designed to KEEP PEOPLE OUT. They also fail to say that ALL MOST ALL those killed attempting to leave East Germany were killed by either mines or weapons fire FROM EAST GERMANY. While the huge majority killed trying to enter the US are killed by the harsh environment.
I guess I just find the Soviet spin on things to still be amusing, even today...
