View Thread: Anyone had their Tapco G2 FCG break on them

HK9mm223
I've been looking around the web and found a site that is selling original AK FCGs saying that the Tapcos are not good at all with the process they are made and not nearly as strong as the original machined FCGs. I also found the Red Star Arms FCG saying they are the only USA machined ones on the market. Are the Tapcos actually weaker? Has anyone actually had theirs break or fail? If so I will pick up the machined Red Star ones but I really don't need the adjust-ability they offer and do need the compliance part so no switching to original stuff. I just don't want a weak link in my if SHTF Ak's. I just want to know what people's consensus is on the Tapco G2 FCG. Thanks

I have 2 russian saiga's that have had the conversion done on them, both have Tapco G2 FCG in them. so far they have had about 700 rds put through with no problems yet.
I also keep original chinese ( Polytech ) spare parts handy, just in case. :D

Dont hear a lot of AK parts breakage reports. The only failure I've ever had was an extractor broke on a Norinco .223 gun. I've gotten full auto parts in kits that showed a lot of wear but I've never seen a broken one. I suppose it must happen but it's rare.

i been using tapco/crapco g2's without issue, but i am not shooting it a lot....

if you're worried about it, i heard the ARSENAL brand fcg for sa sporter is a better choice as they are made the right way from what i heard. as for the right way-heard they are one piece vs tapco's 2 piece hammer..... is that right? lol. as for rockwell hardnesses - that i am not sure about on the arsenal brand product. in any case. i heard they are better made then tapco's fcg.

The Arsenal USA ones are machined in the US. They are usually very good quality but are the only ones I have ever heard that have cracked which more likely has to do with the heat treatment.

Never heard of them breaking. Some people don't like them because they sometimes need fine tuning. They did do a recall because of a spring hole hot drill deep enough.

You might want to check out these guys in Texas. They don't put any marking on their product - like "USA".

Yeah I'd go this route.

You really have to rework the G2s to get anything out of them.

G2s work fine for me but so do the Arsenals. When they had the big sale the Arsenal trigger groups were $13 so I stocked up. They work fine and I have never heard of any FCG breaking.., be it US or foreign. Your results may vary. :wink_smal

I've never heard of any AK trigger failing - Tapco, Arsenal or RSA.

I will say that the RSA's set screws would make me a little nervous in a SHTF rifle. If they come loose with cleaning or whatever then you could have a problem. Have I ever heard of those screws coming loose or experienced a problem with my two RSAs, no, I have not.

Ive got one G2 double hook fcg with well over 2k on it with out issues. Ive never had a problem with either of the G2's and Ive put them in every single build Ive done or been apart of. Tapco everything is usually garbage but I dont see any problem with the G2 other than the well documented NDS compatability and the complaint that some folks prefer to tune them to feel.

3K and counting. no breakee. did have that irritating hammer ride when first assembled though.

Never broke one yet after many many builds!

I’m about half tempted to head out to the shop and stick a G2 in the vice and bust it just so I can say I’m the first.

Man Elky, you always have to be first :-)

Seriously though, to the OP, notice the theme - the G2s don't break. Yes, they have to wear in and some, including me like to tune them a bit, but they are rock solid.

The G2 hammer for my Romy GP75 had a bad mill issue I discovered when I took it to the range for the first time.
Looked like the mold it was forged in hadn't lined up properly. Fugly looking seam on the shoulder was hanging up the trigger hook and wouldn't allow the trigger to reset. :mad_small:
Pulled the whole thing the next day and stoned down the hammer with a very fine diamond file, cleaned it up and reassembled with a RSA sideplate. Problem solved. Gonna hand cycle it with a bit of Flitz to smooth it a bit more, just to polish out the sandy feel left from the file work.
Otherwise, it ran beautifully! 200-ish rounds from Romy drums, Tapco and EU block 30 rounders and never a feed or fire issue. :cool_smal

I've installed several hundred of the TAPCO G2s. While they require some small adjustments (shown on my website) to work reliably in all guns, and I've found an occasional one with a casting flaw that TAPCO missed (and promptly replaced), I've never had one break.
