View Thread: local gun show

Plenty of parking, less dealers, less inventory, less people buying. I got a raffle ticket and paid my 5 bucks to get in. I didn't expect to buy anything and I wasn't disappointed. Gun prices are coming down though from last year. I met a club member that is going to list my G 43 for me on gunbroker, and also shot the shi# with other vendors. I had a 1919 Savage magazine that wouldn't fit my 1923 that I got from fal files marketplace that I traded for a cool US M 14 bayonet and scabbard. I like the bayonet but need a rifle that fits it. Then I stopped at the local trading post and traded some ammo I had no use for for some that I can shoot.
Anyway, cheap fun for the afternoon. The end of gun shows won't have to come from legislation, economic strangulation will do just as well.

I also went to a local gunshow yestterday. AK prices had actually gone up a bit. Attendance was down only a little from the high of a few months ago.
All I purchased was (2) M-1 Carbine trigger housing pins at $1.50 each. I needed one, plus I figured I would lose one. ;)

Seems anymore gun shows are just vendors & attendees sneering at each other from across the table. I used to enjoy going & gave them my business when prices were reasonable. I hope there comes a time when they have to eat their inventory. That $1/round 7n1 might be a bit hard on their teeth.

Yeah, I know what you mean...
Since coming back home to Texas permanently a year ago, I went to one of my favorite gun shows at Dallas Market Hall last winter. I was disgusted with the prices the dealers were "trying" to get out there. I noticed that a lot of people were looking but not nearly as many were buying.
A couple of FFL's I deal with here were saying the same thing about show vendors and gun stores getting on board with the Obama price gouging frenzy. He said they will probably pay for their actions down the road in pissed of regulars who will stay away.
I tend to agree with him...

+1 on all,
Bad economy pushing on one side, high prices from frenzy on other.. The vendor efforts to "lower" prices now cuz Obongo's cratering economy is a day late and dollar short. And he ain't gonna bail them out w/ a nice gov't loan... Hope the vendors stocked a surplus when "things were good"(???) because the clientelle is gone or going away, fast... Ergo their business/profit... Lean cpl coming up... And that's being optimistic...

We had a pretty good sized one in Birmingham last month. Was bigger than the last few I'd gone to (of that type - AGCA).
Still plenty of people proud of their stuff. Some guy wanted $840 for an AK pistol.
Some better prices. Saw a WASR with Crapco folding stock for $420 and a MAK-90 for not much more. Ammo is still ridiculous, though.

A lil bit saturated in the Houston area, gunshow almost every weekend sometimes. One weekend, even had a small show in Pasadena go up against a big show in downtown Houston, only 30 miles or so apart. Small show didn't fill half the civic center it was in, big show did well.

It has come to the point where the best gun and ammo deals are found from the comfort of my home at my computer desk.I recently purchased a Taurus M85UL 38 special online for $300 + $15 shipping +$15 Transfer fee total of $330.Local gun shop had the same gun for $400 + tax.I can order ammo, pay the shipping and still beat the local dealers price before tax.td

My son was the first to point it out to me..don't go to a gunshow looking for anything in particular..OCCASIONALLY..you will come across a motivated seller or dealer
I didn't even go to the show here this weekend.I'm gettin ready to put in a Brownell's order for some AR 15 stuff, and a Midway order for some casting/reloading stuff..waaay easier..comes straight to the door.
I'm waiting with lots of you for 7.62x39 to come down more..$200 shipped is OK, but I can't help feeling that it will come down some more..If it does..great..if not..that's OK as well

Mason can be a good show, just to busy a weekend for me to make it. Birch Run is coming up soon, I'll hit that with my brother. $5 for 3-4 hours entertainment isn't bad. I have not bought a weapon at a show in years, but they can be a good source for odds and ends. Sometimes at surprisingly good prices...

I went to the local gunshow last weekend and found ammo prices the same as 2 months ago. The line for the 7.62 X 39 only lasted 30 minutes at the opening. They had quiet bit left over when I arrived at noon. I had 2 ammo sellers tell me prices were going to go up because of a new law that says, as of 1/1/2011 all purchasers of ammo must supply a valid photo ID and a THUMBPRINT! Anyone know anymore on this?
This will supposedly kill all mail order ammo!
Plus I got this news from a friend in Texas;
Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2009 1040 federal tax form all guns that you have or own. It will require fingerprints and a tax of $50 per gun.
This bill was introduced on Feb.. 24, 2009, by the Obama staff. BUT . .
this bill will only become public knowledge 30 days after the new law
becomes effective ! This is an amendment to the Internal Revenue Act of
1986. This means that the Finance Committee has passed this without Senate voting on it at all. Trust Obama ? ..... you must be kidding

I really miss the gun shows in Pennsylvania ... the Forks of the Delaware show was always a very good one with LOTS of old parts and etc for mil surps.
By comparison, the shows in Ga SUCK ... every time I leave one I feel my time would have been better spent at WalMart.

Clearing Up the Rumors: The Truth About The “Gun Tax Bill” Friday, May 29, 2009 In the last few weeks, NRA-ILA has received hundreds of e-mails warning us about “SB-2099,” a bill that would supposedly require you to report all your guns on your income tax return every April 15.
Like many rumors, there’s just a grain of truth to this one. Someone’s recycling an old alert, which wasn’t even very accurate when it was new.
There actually was a U.S. Senate bill with that number that would have taxed handguns—nine years ago. It was introduced by anti-gun Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), and it would have included handguns under the National Firearms Act’s tax and registration scheme. This has nothing to do with anyone’s Form 1040, of course.
Fortunately, S. 2099 disappeared without any action by the Senate, back when Bill Clinton was still in the White House. We reported about it back then, just as we report about new anti-gun bills every week. Now, it’s time for gun owners to drop this old distraction and focus on the real threats at hand.

For pistol ammo in Kali--will go into effect at some point in the near future.
The governator merely shows how much of a Eurotrash commie traitor he really is in signing this Bill into law.
Won't affect most of us though. Not yet, anyhow.
These people are like a festering wound.

Thank you..!
I just had this damn thing sent to me again by a friend and had to tell him to check the US Senate website for proof of it.
I first saw this SB2099 business about 2 years ago.
